German Utility Just Launched “Gaming Electricity” for Power

Your RTX 4090 rig running 30 hours a week is a serious electricity draw, no question. But that draw alone probably won’t make SWK ENERGIE’s <a href="https://www.meingaming.de/” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>meinGAMING tariff pay off , and if you’re worried about paying too much, you’re right to scrutinize it. The Krefeld-based municipal utility operates a gaming-branded electricity plan built on a straightforward high-consumption pricing model: a higher fixed base fee offset by a lower per-kilowatt-hour rate, designed for households that use a lot of power, full stop.

    How the Tariff Is Structured

Three gamer personas give the plan its marketing shape, but each one represents total household consumption, not just what your PC pulls from the wall.

Gaming-branded electricity like meinGAMING presents customers with three profiles, according to reporting by TechSpot. Casual Gamer assumes 2,500 kWh of annual household consumption; Pro Gamer targets users with high-end setups, streaming equipment, and work-from-home loads, assuming 3,500 kWh; Gaming Households, aimed at families or shared homes with two or more active gamers, defaults to 5,000 kWh per year.

Those figures represent the entire household’s electricity use, not the gaming hardware alone. According to SWK’s tariff materials, the offer becomes relevant at annual household consumption of approximately 2,500 kWh, regardless of what that electricity is actually powering.

    The Math Behind the Marketing

This is where the gamer branding and the underlying economics begin to drift apart.

A single gaming PC drawing roughly 700 watts for 30 hours a week generates about 1,092 kWh annually. That figure excludes the monitor and peripherals, and is based on an illustrative calculation rather than tariff-provider data. Add a display and some extras, and the gaming setup might reach 1,200 to 1,300 kWh per year as an estimate.

That still leaves a significant gap before reaching the approximate 2,500 kWh threshold where the tariff’s lower unit price can start working in your favor. Closing that gap requires the rest of the household contributing: refrigerator, washing machine, home-office laptop, possibly an electric vehicle or a heat pump. Think of it like a streaming service bundle priced around heavy watchers but open to anyone who clicks subscribe. The label says gamer; the economics say high-volume customer.

Postcode, contract length, and the competing tariff a customer is leaving all affect the final saving, according to reporting by Tom’s Hardware. Your power company can lock in price guarantees of up to 24 months on the covered energy-price component, according to reporting on the offer, which provides some predictability for that portion of the bill.

SWK states that electricity supplied through meinGAMING comes from 100% renewable of the supply contract, not a claim that your hardware draws any less power

High-consumption households cut across several lifestyle categories: EV owners, smart-home enthusiasts, and home-based professionals can fit a similar usage profile to a two-PC gaming family. If this segmentation model finds an audience, other utilities may follow, extending identity-based tariff marketing well beyond gaming. Before any brand name does the math for you, pull up your last electricity bill, find your annual kWh total, and run the comparison yourself.
