Dev who worked on GTA 6 argues Nintendo Switch 2 version wouldn’t make sense

A developer who was involved with Grand Theft Auto 6 has shared his thoughts about a potential Nintendo Switch 2 version, arguing that it doesn’t make sense right now.

Jérémy Hartvick worked on the title up until 2020, when he left Rockstar. Obviously, that was quite a few years ago, and he doesn’t have insight into decision-making at the company.

That said, Hartvick said while speaking with Kiwi Talkz that bringing the game over might not be the best move. He said that fans will flock to the platforms on which the title is available on, even if they have to buy a brand-new PS5. Given that, Hartvick questioned whether a Nintendo Switch 2 port would “make sense” given “the risk of delivering a subpar experience”.

    Hartvick shared the following:

“I don’t believe it even makes sense. I’m not sure the audience for GTA 6 is so much the audience of the Switch. If you’re a GTA fan, you will probably buy the console on which GTA comes out, or you’ll get it for PC if it comes to PC, etc.

I’m wondering if it really makes sense, especially when you have a killer app. You know that people will buy a console for your game. Does it make sense for you to go out of your way to probably have the risk of delivering a subpar experience because it does not run exactly the same and so on while you know that anybody will buy a PS5 to get your game?”

After his response, Kiwi Talkz brought up the current economic environment and how expensive everything is. That prompted Hartvick to back off things a bit, saying that a GTA 6 port wouldn’t be “totally ludicrous.” However, he doesn’t believe Rockstar would make that decision right now. Hartvick went on to discuss the possibility of streaming being an option on Nintendo Switch 2.

If you own a Nintendo Switch 2, would you pick up GTA 6 for the system if the game ever made it over? Let us know in the comments.
