East of Eden Leads Netflix’s October Shows

East of Eden gives Netflix its biggest literary adaptation of the month. Pugh headlines the miniseries, which will have seven episodes to explore Steinbeck’s sweeping family story and the complicated Cathy Ames.

October 15 brings two major television releases. The Diplomat returns for its fourth season, while Hollywood Arts expands the Victorious universe with a sequel series built around the performing arts school.

Nobody Wants This begins its third season October 22. One day later, Lupin returns with Part 4. Other notable series include All American Season 8, Solar Opposites Season 6, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 and Love Is Blind Season 11, which moves the dating experiment to Boston.

Animals arrives October 9 as the month’s new Ben Affleck film. Tyler Perry’s Doing Life premieres one week earlier, while international movies such as Crazy Rich, Incredibly Broke, The Storm and Sacrifice broaden the film selection.

Netflix Embraces Spooky Season

Netflix will stock its library with horror throughout October, starting with a huge October 1 collection.

Viewers can revisit Psycho and its first two sequels, along with The Strangers, Split, Crimson Peak, Hush and The Sixth Sense. The schedule also includes entries from the Evil Dead, Friday the 13th, Ouija and I Know What You Did Last Summer franchises.

The Boogeyman arrives October 5, followed by Pride and Prejudice and Zombies on October 6. Haunted Hotel and Is It Cake? Halloween return with new seasons October 9, giving subscribers both animated scares and Halloween themed competition.

The opening day additions extend far beyond horror. Netflix will add all five Bourne movies, the complete Twilight saga and favorites such as The Devil Wears Prada, Moonlight, 8 Mile, The Prestige and Crazy Rich Asians.

Comedy Legends Take Center Stage

October’s documentary slate places a noticeable focus on comedians and the people who shaped modern comedy.

Lorne will examine Lorne Michaels, while Who Is Martin Mull? turns its attention to the actor and comedian on October 7. Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald arrives October 16, followed by Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story on October 23.

The One About Matthew Perry premieres October 27. Netflix will close the month with SCTV: The Greatest Show You’ve Never Heard Of, offering another look at the influential sketch comedy series and its celebrated cast.

Other nonfiction releases include Schumacher ’94: The Birth of a Legend, Free Leonard Peltier, TYSON and The Disciple. The New Stanford Prison Experiment will also revisit one of the most controversial psychological studies in modern history.
