‘The Boys’ Creator’s ‘Freddie the Fix’ Getting a Movie Adaptation

Whether he’s telling entirely original tales or putting his own spin on established characters, there’s no one in comics quite like Garth Ennis. While his work with John Constantine in Hellblazerhelped introduce him to a wider audience, his original series Preacher, which he co-created with artist Steve Dillon, is what really took his talents to the next level. It’s no surprise, then, that his work on DC and Marvel heroes inspired gritty live-action <a href="https://comicvibe.com/the-secret-history-of-marvel-movie-adaptation-comics/” title=”The Secret History of Marvel Movie Adaptation Comics”>adaptations of those figures, or why the Prime Video adaptation of his comic The Boysbecame such a hit.

Another of his titles, Freddie the Fix, is confirmed by Deadline to be getting the movie treatment. Lawrence Lamont, director of One of Them Days, is currently attached to the adaptation. Kalen Egan & Travis Sentell are writing the screenplay.

Image Comics describes the book, “A twisted horror tale from Garth Ennis (the legendary creator of The Boys and Preacher) and Mike Perkins (Bat-man: First Knight, Swamp Thing)! Hollywood After Dark — werewolves, vampires, zombies, aliens, bogeymen, predators, and…things. They all have their kinks, and they all get in deep sh-t. They all call Freddie…to fix it. The horror-skewed intersection of The Boys and Ray Donovan. The debut offering from Ninth Circle, the creator-owned, creator-driven, horror showcase of standalone bone-chilling tales of terror and mayhem!”

Based on the description, this sounds like the perfect way to fill the void left behind after the conclusion of The Boys. That franchise had no problem poking fun at superhero stereotypes, first starting as an R-rated parody of those books and descending into incredibly dark narrative reveals. The Prime Video series has multiple live-action spin-offs in the works, but Freddie the Fix falls much more in line with the realm of horror than that world.

Earlier this year, Disney+ released Wonder Man, which similarly explored the inner workings of the Hollywood system and the entertainment industry’s overlap with super-powered individuals, and while that series was initially renewed for a Season 2, the streamer reversed their decision and canceled the show. Amazon MGM Studios, who developed The Boys, is also developing Freddie the Fix, confirming the positive relationship between the studio and Ennis.
