Matthew McConaughey’s transition away from rom-coms was a bumpy one

Matthew McConaughey became a fixture of the rom-com genre thanks to hits like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Daysand The Wedding Planner, but he soon hoped to find success away from swoon-worthy silver screen projects.
As part of this move away from the romance genre, Matthew starred in 2005’s Sahara, based on Clive Cussler’s novel of the same name, as an explorer in search of a lost Civil War battleship. Sadly, it was more dud than box office dynamite: the film grossed just under $120 million, with an estimated production budget between $130 million to $160 million.
