Marvel Studios is preparing for the final season of Daredevil: Born Again, with the next chapter set to put Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock in another major conflict. As production moves forward, Matthew Lillard has offered a brief tease about what viewers can expect from the show’s concluding season.
Speaking to ComicBook.com, Lillard praised the executive producers and showrunner Dario Scardapane while discussing the direction of Season 3.
“I do think it’s in the hands of Dario, who is a great storyteller,” Lillard said. “I think that the show, this season, is going to be explosive, and is really going to rattle a lot of people’s expectations.”
Who does Matthew Lillard play in Daredevil: Born Again?
Lillard joined Daredevil: Born Again in Season 2 as Mr. Charles, a powerful figure operating outside the traditional world of superheroes. Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum previously described the character as someone with significant influence, who does not rely on superheroes or a superhero identity.
Mr. Charles is connected to CIA Director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and becomes involved in Wilson Fisk’s political operation. Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, has expanded his influence across New York City, creating a conflict between his administration and the interests that Charles represents.
Lillard’s character, therefore, occupies a different space from Daredevil’s usual opponents. Rather than confronting Murdock through direct physical combat, Mr. Charles operates through political influence, an intelligence network, and negotiations involving powerful institutions.
Season 3 will also continue the show’s use of characters from Marvel’s earlier Netflix-era series. Mike Colter is returning as Luke Cage, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, and Finn Jones as Danny Rand.
The eight-episode third season is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in March 2027. It will serve as the final season of Daredevil: Born Again and is part of Marvel Studios’ Phase Six slate.
