With controversy rife about the PlayStation 6 skipping over physical disks and forcing gamers to rely on digital games, a fresh report from Bloomberg says that Sony might skip attending next year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) entirely. The report suggests that Sony’s decision comes as the Japanese electronics and entertainment giant shifts focus to its entertainment division.
While Sony typically prefers to conduct dedicated events or localized launches for the PlayStation, the firm has nevertheless used the event to share important details about its gaming platform. Previously, the CES has seen Sony announce major next-generation hardware such as the PlayStation VR2 headset and an accessibility controller kit for gamers with disabilities.
CES in 2020 caused quite a bit of a stir as it occurred before Sony launched the PlayStation 5 lineup later in the year. At the event, the firm decided to simply showcase the upcoming console’s logo while gamers were hopeful for design and pricing details.

Well, today’s report from Bloomberg suggests Sony’s fanbase might not even get a logo at the CES 2027. The report reveals that the Japanese firm has decided too kip attending CES in 2027 altogether. When reached out for comment, Sony told the publication that the decision comes as the firm decides to focus on its entertainment business instead.
While the latest decision is surprising since it will mark the first time since 1967 that Sony has completely skipped the CES, the firm’s rationale does follow recent trends. For instance, in CES 2026, Sony simply set up a booth as part of its joint venture with Honda, while in 2025, it focused on entertainment platforms and announcements such as The Last of Us and the Ghost of Tsushima series.

The firm’s decision to skip CES altogether next year also comes as it faces considerable controversy regarding disks on the PlayStation 6. The firm announced that it will no longer release PlayStation disks starting 2028, with the announcement coming as other reports suggested that a launch date for the next-generation video game console had not been decided either.
As of mid-August, Sony had yet to decide a launch date or a price for the console as it operates in a world disrupted by the AI buildout and high memory prices. The shift to entertainment instead of consoles is also a part of the firm’s strategy to navigate in this world, according to its CEO Hiroki Totoki.
