The cult game “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” will receive its long-awaited official Ukrainian localization today. On the eve of the release, CD Projekt RED localization project manager Olga Sushitska appealed to gamers to support the team and contain the first wave of criticism, as the translation was created in extremely difficult war conditions.
In her thread on the social network X, Olga Sushitska called the release of the Ukrainian text for “The Witcher” a historic moment, but placed special emphasis on the specifics of the domestic community, which is famous for its high standards.
“Forgive me for saying this, but the Ukrainian gaming community is ruthless in its demands and expectations (although we, Ukrainians, are actually like that every day and in everything). Therefore, please hold back your criticism at least on the first day. Write about the localization in a good way first,” she urged.
The manager admits that such a large-scale project cannot be perfectly liked by everyone without exception, but asks to give the team the opportunity to hold on to “a few hours on an endorphin wave” before the players start pointing out possible inaccuracies.
Sushitska especially emphasized that the players should not insult the translators, no matter what comments they had about the text. Work on the text, which was thousands of words long, was carried out in extreme conditions: without light, heat, and also during and between Russian shelling, when the specialists were experiencing their own personal tragedies.
Positive feedback, notes the CDPR representative, is necessary not only to support the morale of the authors. It is a strategically important signal for the Polish studio that the domestic market is active and grateful.
“This is needed not only by us and our translators. And not only by CDPR – as a clear signal that investing in the Ukrainian community is worth it, and how. But also because, having the opportunity to add a little love and light to this cruel, sad world of today – add it,” she concluded.
The release of the reissue of “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” is expected at 1:00 p.m. Kyiv time.
