Fall in love with arts and entertainment this October as the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre offers up an eclectic mix of events with a little something for everyone. You can’t go wrong as they kick off the month with ‘The Price is Right’, as culture, music, storytelling and more come to the stage.

Now you can be part of the excitement, and possibly the next contestant on ‘The Price is Right’, which comes to the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre on Oct. 1 and 2.

Presented by The Brick, the hit interactive stage show based on television’s longest running and most popular game show gives eligible individuals the chance to hear their names called, and possibly try their hand some of the show’s classic games such as Plinko, Cliffhangers or The Big Wheel, all hoping to be a part of the Showcase. Only guests 19 and older are eligible to claim prizes that could include appliances, vacations, and possibly a new car.

Ticket prices range from $45.75 to $237.75.

The free event will take place inside the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre Lobby Gallery. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the artist talk expected to begin shortly after. Dayal’s art show is an ongoing collection from Palestine of paintings, alongside writing, textiles, and archival materials both personal and historical. The exhibit is described as combining the act of repetitive mark making with an educational and political stance in the face ongoing genocide of the people, and all living beings in occupied Palestine.

Filled with humanity, history, hope, and heart this is one exhibit not to be missed.

On Oct. 4 classical music lovers will want to scoop up the sounds of Quartetto Gelato consisting of Colin Maier on oboe, Tino Popovic on violin, Dobrochna Zubeck on cello, and Matti Pulkki on accordion. Tickets are $33 or $18 for students and children.

Settle in for some storytelling with one of the greats.

On Oct. 4 best selling author, mythographer, and thinker Martin Shaw returns to the CPAC stage at 7 p.m, for a night of stories from Celtic tradition, coupled with adventures from Shaw’s own life. Described as bringing tales of wit, grief, and deep reflection into our midst for anight of teaching and telling, Shaw has been hailed one of the most revered storytellers of his generation. Back by popular demand, The Boo Revue!, a frightfully fun, blacklight musical puppet show created by the Puppet Society, and sponsored by Puppet Stuff Canada, features the friendly inhabitants of a ghostly old graveyard. The show is officially sold out. The Oct. 16 event promises to be fun for the whole family.

On Oct. 17, book and bird buffs won’t want to miss out on an evening with artist and author Jackie Morris who will be in conversation with CBC’s Gregor Craigie. The event will take place on the third floor of the Cowichan Community Centre in the CPAC lobby.

Morris is a British writer and illustrator who was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2016, winning it in 2019 for her illustration of The Lost Words which was voted the most beautiful book of 2016 by UK booksellers. Morris, is also the recipient of the Tir na n-Og Award for the children’s book Seal Children. Collaborating once again with fellow author and naturalist Robert Macfarlane, she will be promoting her latest publication The Book of Birds. Tickets are $10.

He’ll sing you some songs, he’s the ‘Piano Man’.

Experience the man behind the ‘Piano Men’ as Jim Witter, who has been entertaining crowds for more than three decades breathes life into the music of Billy Joel and Elton John on Oct. 20.

Witter’s tributes to musical icons, and songwriting have been recognized on both sides of the border, earning him multiple awards and nominations from the Canadian Country Music Association, the Juno Awards, and the Dove Awards in Nashville, where his original album Forgiveness was nominated for ‘Inspirational Album of the Year’.
