“VisionQuest” might very well be the most ambitious Marvel Cinematic Universe Disney+ series yet, at least when it comes to the sheer amount of lore behind it. Fortunately, Looper’s video above will give you the only recap you need before watching the show.
Starring Paul Bettany as Vision and James Spader as returning “Avengers: Age of Ultron” antagonist Ultron, “VisionQuest” is a direct continuation of the first MCU Disney+ series, “WandaVision.” During the events of that show, the grief-stricken Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) put the entire small town of Westview inside a Hex bubble, mind controlling the residents to act out sitcom scenarios in her attempt to deal with the trauma she incurred when Vision died in “Avengers: Infinity War.”
The facsimile “Westview Vision” that Wanda creates to serve as her husband in the “WandaVision” fantasy land ceases to exist during the events of the show, but a rebooted, off-white version of the original Vision remains. This reborn android lacks the original’s humanizing experiences and is initially hostile, but Wanda’s Vision convinces him to step down by evoking the Ship of Theseus problem. On “VisionQuest,” the White Vision attempts to deal with his identity and figure out his true nature.
VisionQuest brings several MCU artificial intelligences back

The first trailer for “VisionQuest” revealed the first look at Ultron’s MCU return, while also offering glimpses of the other AI constructs living inside Vision’s mind. The most notable one of them is James D’Arcy’s J.A.R.V.I.S., who uses the human avatar of the Stark family’s old butler Edwin Jarvis — most prominently seen in “Agent Carter,” but also present in “Avengers: Endgame” and “What If…?”
Another important returning character is Tommy Maximoff (Ruaridh Mollica), one of Vision and Wanda’s magical sons from “WandaVision.” The previous “WandaVision” spin-off miniseries, “Agatha All Along,” already revealed that Tommy’s brother Billy (Joe Locke) has survived the destruction of the Hex bubble, which will likely be an important development going forward.
Of course, these returning characters are mere surface scratches on the deep-cut lore “VisionQuest” will cover. Looper has already posted some key predictions for the “VisionQuest” series, and watching our video above will fill in the gaps before the show debuts on October 14.
