The Fund returned 6.6% for the quarter, bringing its financial-year return to -6.4%. On a local currency basis, performance was approximately flat for the year, as the strengthening Australian Dollar created a roughly 6% currency headwind. Compounding businesses led quarterly returns after being the largest detractor for the full year, while Real Assets were the only positive contributor during the financial year. Meanwhile, the MSCI AC World Index gained 24% in local currency, with much of the advance concentrated among companies benefiting from AI infrastructure spending. The firm remains cautious about rising valuations, market concentration, and investment risks surrounding the AI theme, drawing comparisons with the dotcom cycle. Instead, it emphasizes diversification across different sources of return and avoids businesses facing structural AI disruption. The firm believes the portfolio contains significant latent value and remains positioned to reward long-term investor patience.
