WE BARE BEARS to star in comic book CHRISTMAS SPECIAL

Dynamite has announced a We Bare Bears Christmas Special, the first comic book for the Cartoon Network series that ran from 2015 to 2019. Written by Paulina Ganucheau (Supernatural: Sam Winchester) with art by Ciro Cangialosi (Gargoyles/Darkwing Duck), Carlo Lauro (Darkwing Duck), and newcomer Stefano Porcu, the one-shot will follow the brothers Grizzly, Panda, and Ice Bear in three new stories set during the holidays.

Ganucheau comments, “The Bare Bear Brothers never fail to make me laugh. [I’m] very excited at a chance to make them dance in these little holiday tales. Antics will ensue!” Christmas was previously featured in the episodes “Christmas Parties,” “The Perfect Tree,” and “Christmas Movies,” which respectively aired during the show’s second, third, and fourth seasons.

While this is the first We Bare Bears comic book, we should stress it isn’t the first Bears comic, as the show was adapted from a more mature webcomic, The Three Bare Bears, by creator Daniel Chong. The series subsequently spawned three books from Penguin’s Cartoon Network Books imprint in 2017, a TV movie in 2020, and a prequel show, We Baby Bears, in 2022.

The book will be released in December, with a main cover by Ganucheau, and a host of variants featuring art by Drew Moss, or styled on greeting cards and gift wrapping, that you can check out below. Dynamite and Cartoon Network’s relationship will continue in the meantime with the relaunch of the ThunderCats comic on November 4. Chong’s latest project, the Pixar film Hoppers, is also available now physically and digitally, including on Disney+.
