On Sept. 18, the 61-year-old reportedly attempted suicide at his Nevada home, where police discovered him unconscious in the backyard Carrot Top’s publicist told EW at the time, “His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers and respectfully ask for privacy.”

Two days later, there was a promising update on the comedian’s health.

“He is now awake, breathing on his own and continuing to improve, surrounded by his family and those closest to him,” Carrot Top’s representative Jami Schlicher said in a statement to EW.

“Humor has always been such an important part of who Scott is and how he connects with people, and that remains true today as he shares moments of humor with the medical staff caring for him,” Schlicher continued. “Many messages from fans have been shared with Scott, including stories from people about how his comedy helped them through difficult periods in their own lives.”

One fellow comedian in particular has also reached out to offer support.

Andrew Dice Clay, who rose to fame in the 1980s with an outrageous hyper-masculine persona, showed his softer side in a comment left on Carrot Top’s most recent Instagram post.

“I tried to call you last night, so please call me back,” wrote Dice Clay, following news of the prop comedian’s suicide attempt. “Life is a gift… You are allowed to be what you want, do what you want and live the exact life that you want. Millions of people love you for what you do!!! I love you for what you do personally.”

Dice Clay continued, “We are here for a little while… But when you’re gone,,, you are gone forever… So please, SCOTT, enjoy this gift of life as long as you can.”
