It’s double the happiness for former AKB48 star Abe Maria.
The 30-year-old revealed the news in an Instagram post on Saturday (Sept 26), writing: “I’d like to share some personal news with everyone here.
“I have married someone from outside the entertainment industry — someone I’ve been seeing for a while.
“At the same time, we have welcomed a new life into the world. It all feels like a miracle, and I am truly grateful. I will cherish this gift dearly.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported me all along, Maria Abe.”
She added that she will continue her activities while monitoring her health.
Many internet personalities and fans filled the comments section with congratulatory messages, including current members of Taiwan-based idol group TPE48 such as Lin Yu-hsin, Tsai Ya-en and Lau Hiu-ching.
Abe Maria debuted as a 10th-generation member of AKB48, often referred to as Japan’s national idol group, and was part of Team K.
In 2017, she transferred to TPE48, AKB48’s sister project group aimed at debuting in Taiwan, which was later reorganised into AKB48 Team TP.
She announced her graduation in August 2019 and officially left the group following a concert in Taiwan in October that year. She has since remained active in Taiwan as an entertainer and influencer.
