I have always criticized the writers behind the comic stories such as The Boys and Crossed, but in this case, their combination of shock value along with interesting <a href="https://comicvibe.com/new-marvel-footage-reveals-first-look-at-character-teased-15-years-ago-by-mcu-easter-egg/” title=”New Marvel Footage Reveals First Look at Character Teased 15 Years Ago By MCU Easter Egg”>characters actually works in this comic’s favor. Caligula is based on a real-life monster that was a Roman Emperor. He was apparently known as a ruler that was extremely paranoid about possible traitors, he also tortured and killed people, leading to his early demise by his own people.
In other words, Caligula was considered to be one of the worst rulers in Roman Emperor history.
This comic book follows the story of Caligula, but it is very exaggerated when it comes to the storyline, but it is pretty interesting once you get to know the characters. We follow the story of a guy named Junis, who one day learns that Caligula murdered and tortured his entire family. He vows to take revenge, and goes after Caligula, willing to do whatever it takes to defeat this monster.
He becomes a part of his service, pretending to be a servant that becomes very loyal, doing anything for Caligula when he first arrives. He attempts to kill the emperor, but learns the hard way that it’s not going to be easy. Caligula is immortal, due to his demonic pact with a demon horse that demands Caligula to give him souls from his victims.
Junis realizes he needs to come up with a different plan and allows himself to be sucked into the world of Caligula, accepting the fact that he will witness the worst vile acts committed by this monster, along with his own possible moments of torture against himself or others. The things that Junis goes through his sickening, but despite everything he experiences, he is still determined to take down Caligula. He teams up with a soldier, who is creating a team of other soldiers to kill Caligula.
Even this soldier begs Junis to walk away, but he refuses, because he wants to take down Caligula.
Junis eventually gets very close with Caligula, to the point that Caligula appears to fall in love with him. He finally trusts Junis to the full extent, willing to let him witness how he collects the souls from his victims. Junis uses this to his advantage, and eventually takes away the powers that made Caligula immortal. The soldiers are able to kill both Caligula and the demon horse, marking a huge victory for Rome.
The story ends with Junis escaping from that wretched life, and he is told by the soldier that helped him, hopefully things will work in their favor now.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case.
After everything Junis had gone through, he wasn’t able to stay fully sane. He is happy with the power he had stolen from Caligula, and he calls himself the new Caligula, now embracing the power he now wields.
This ending actually did make sense, because after what Junis went through, it made sense for the guy to go insane. He had endured way too much torture and vile acts, and his mind slowly deteriorated over time. It’s tragic how Junis stayed by Caligula’s side to take revenge on his family, only for everything to go wrong when he lost his mind in the end.
I was so surprised that the story was actually good. These writers had written several comics that didn’t sit well with me, because they were purposely written for shock value content. There are actually people who have claimed that even though the Caligula comic features a lot of shock value, everyone claimed that the story was definitely pretty good, due to the characters that were presented in this story. They all had these disturbing connections with each other, and I think that is the reason why this comic worked out.
I don’t think I’m ever going to read this story again, due to the heavy content, but I have to say that it’s a good combination of shock value and horror.
