Usagi Drop is now streaming in India with Japanese audio and English subtitles. The 11-episode slice-of-life anime follows a 30-year-old bachelor who unexpectedly becomes responsible for raising a six-year-old girl after discovering a family secret.
Daikichi Kawachi learns about Rin Kaga at his grandfather’s funeral. Rin is his grandfather’s illegitimate daughter, and the rest of the family treats her as an uncomfortable problem. Rather than leave her without a guardian, Daikichi decides to take responsibility for her despite having no experience as a parent. The series then focuses on their day-to-day life as the two adjust to living together.
Usagi Drop, also known as Bunny Drop, is based on the manga by Yumi Unita. The manga ran in Shodensha’s Feel Young magazine from October 2005 to April 2011. It was followed by a separate Usagi Drop: Bangaihen spin-off, which ran for another five months in 2011. The main manga was collected in nine volumes, and the anime adapts the story of Daikichi and Rin as they begin building a new family life together.
The anime was produced by Production I.G and directed by Kanta Kamei, with Taku Kishimoto writing the series. Suguru Matsutani composed the music. It originally aired in Japan from July to September 2011 and consists of 11 episodes. The franchise also received a live-action film released in August 2011.
