Billy Bush has landed a new TV gig nearly 10 years after his high-profile firing from NBC.
The longtime entertainment news host is expected to join Fox News Media as a contributor, according toVariety. Bush’s new role is expected to be announced Tuesday, Sept. 22, and he’ll make an appearance on Jesse Watters Primetime during the 8 p.m. ET hour. He is also expected to appear across multiple Fox News Media platforms.
“I’m excited to join Fox News Media and its loyal audience to share my perspective on the people, ideas and moments shaping today’s culture…. as well as the ones trying to undo it!” Bush said in a statement.
The move marks another chapter in a television career that has included Access Hollywood, Today and Extra.
Bush spent years covering entertainment for Access Hollywood before moving to NBC’s Today in 2016. His stint as co-host of the show’s third hour proved short-lived, however, after a 2005 Access Hollywood recording involving Bush and Donald Trump was published in October 2016. In the recording, Trump can be heard bragging about sexual assault and Bush can be heard laughing.
Bush subsequently lost his job at Today and remained off television for three years.
He eventually returned to syndicated entertainment news as host of Extra. More recently, Bush has gone the independent route with Hot Mics With Billy Bush, a digital program covering sports, politics, entertainment, technology and pop culture. Variety reports that Bush is expected to continue his independent ventures alongside his new Fox News role.
Bush has also spent much of his career covering major entertainment and news events. His résumé includes the Golden Globes, Grammys and Academy Awards, along with NBC’s Olympics coverage from 2004 to 2016. He also reported from Prince William and Catherine Middleton’s royal wedding for NBC News.
His move to Fox News comes as the network appears to be expanding its coverage of entertainment and popular culture. Variety characterized Bush’s hiring as a possible indication that Fox News Media is looking to cover celebrity and pop culture in greater depth.
Bush’s first scheduled appearance in his new role will be on Jesse Watters Primetime Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
