Mammootty receives National Film Award
Malayalam superstar Mammootty has added another feather to his cap in his illustrious career by winning the National Film Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in Bramayugam. The award is presented at the 72nd National Film Awards, celebrating the best in Indian Cinema for the year 2024.
Mammootty shares the Best Actor award with Kartik Aaryan, who has been recognised for his performance in Chandu Champion. As per the official announcement of the award, both will get the Rajat Kamal and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh.
Mammootty’s fourth National Award
The honor is Mammootty’s fourth National Film Award for Best Actor. His latest win is for Rahul Sadasivan’s Malayalam period horror film Bramayugam.
The actor has bagged the National Award for his performances in Mathilukal and Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha in the past and later for Ponthan Mada. His most recent accolade is another milestone in a career spanning several decades.
Bramayugam receives wide appreciation
One of the highlights of Bramayugam was Mammootty’s portrayal of the mysterious character Kodumon Potti.
The film was also awarded in another major category at the 72nd National Film Awards. Shehnad Jalal has won the National Film Award for Best Cinematography for Bramayugam.
So the film’s recognition goes beyond the performance at its centre, with the jury also honouring its visual craft.
The 72nd National Film Awards ceremony will be held on September 22, 2026. The awards are given away by the President of India at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat.
The 72nd edition celebrates Indian films certified during 2024 and recognizes excellence across feature films, non-feature films and writing on cinema.
The latest honour is yet another feather in the cap of Mammootty’s career that has continued to span over generations of Indian cinema.
