Marvel is filling in the gaps before Spider-Man’s return. A newly announced comic book prequel series will bridge the story ahead of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2. The four-issue series will debut in December and will give fans more of Peter Parker’s story before the animated show returns to Disney+ in 2027.
The limited series brings back writer Christos Gage and artist Eric Gapstur, who previously worked together on the 2024 tie-in comic. Showrunner Jeff Trammell is also involved and will help ensure the new story fits directly into the animated series’ continuity.
“I’m beyond excited to return to the world of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man!” Gage said in a statement. “Just like last time, showrunner Jeff Trammell has been incredibly generous about coordinating in a way that makes our story a firm part of the show’s continuity.” Gage also teased Gapstur’s return.
“Best of all, Eric Gapstur returns on art, and while he was great before, he’s leveled up…wait until you see his work on Spidey, Daredevil, and classic Spider-Man villains finally making their debut here…whoops, spoiler! It’s a real pleasure to be a part of this take on Spidey that combines the feel of the Silver Age with new and exciting characters and situations. I hope I get to do it again next year!” he further added.
Something is happening at Oscorp ahead of Season 2
The new comic will follow Peter as he continues protecting the city while dealing with problems in his personal life. He is beginning to drift away from some of his closest friends.
Meanwhile, something appears to be wrong at Oscorp. Norman Osborn has supposedly stepped away from his involvement with Spider-Man, but his son Harry believes the company is hiding something.
His concerns eventually lead Peter and his allies to investigate what is happening behind the scenes. The animated series has already put its own spin on Peter’s early years, using a visual style inspired by classic Spider-Man comics while telling a story set in an alternate MCU timeline.
Issue #1 will feature a main cover by Leonardo Romero, with variant covers from Luciano Vecchio and David Baldeón.
The first issue arrives in comic shops on December 9, setting up more of Peter’s story before Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 premieres on Disney+ in 2027.
