There will be dancing in the streets, drumming in the studio and singing in the churches.
Back for its 17th go-around in the city, Culture Days returns to Richmond Sept. 18 to Oct. 4 with a massive list of things to see and do.
Free events and activities, from dance to calligraphy, will be held throughout the city over two weeks and it all kicks off with an open studios and launch event at the Richmond Cultural Centre on Sept. 18 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Starting with an opening ceremony hosted by Mayor Malcolm Brodie, the evening will offer people a chance to explore the cultural centre’s art studios and creative spaces with hands-on arts activities, workshops, demonstrations and tours.
As the proceedings unfold over the following two weeks, artist-led programs will be offered by BC Ballet Outreach, Gateway Theatre, Chinese Ink and Brush Society, Richmond Gem and Mineral Society, Richmond Photo Club, Richmond Potters Club, Textile Arts Guild of Richmond and Richmond Weavers and Spinners Guild.
Last year’s edition saw more than 9.5 million people participate in more than 5,000 events across the country.
The annual event offers barrier-free opportunities for the public to participate in arts and culture experiences, celebrating the diverse communities that make up Canada’s creative sector and reaffirming the importance of the arts in our well-being.
Consistently ranked among the top 10 participating communities in the country, Richmond has long been recognized for its exceptional community engagement and has offered more than 1,200 free events since the event’s inception in 2010.
