Apple Gaming Controller: 2 Beats Models Spotted in macOS Code

Apple may launch its first iPhone gaming controller under the Beats brand instead of its own name. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports Apple has developed two controller models for mobile gaming. The project has continued for more than a year, with Beats executives leading product development. Leaked macOS code also revealed model numbers T6502 and T1057 for the controllers. 

The reported Beats gaming controllers could target iPhone gamers seeking physical controls for demanding mobile games. Apple
appears to favor Beats for its flexible pricing, expressive designs and lower brand risk. The controllers could also deliver tighter iOS gaming integration than current third-party accessories. 

The leaked profiles describe two conventional gamepads with similar core controls. Both models reportedly include dual thumbsticks, ABXY buttons, shoulder buttons and analog triggers. T6502 could use USB connectivity with four haptic channels across two motors. T1057 reportedly adds Bluetooth, motion sensors and a single haptic motor. 

Apple has not confirmed the controllers, their branding, pricing or release timeline. The software references appeared inside a macOS 26.7 release candidate during September. Later reports also noted changes to those references, leaving the launch plans uncertain. 

Beats could give Apple more room to challenge established controller brands without premium Apple pricing. The brand already carries a lifestyle identity built around entertainment, fashion and youth culture. A colorful plastic gamepad could therefore fit Beats more naturally than Apple’s minimalist hardware image. 

The move could also strengthen Apple’s gaming
ambitions across its hardware ecosystem. iPhones already run demanding titles, while physical controls can improve racing, shooting and action games. A first-party controller could further connect iPhone gaming with Apple Arcade and other Apple platforms.

Competition remains strong from Backbone, Razer, GameSir, Sony and Microsoft. Apple would need seamless pairing, reliable compatibility and competitive pricing to gain attention. The Beats label could provide exactly the flexibility needed for that challenge.

If Apple moves forward, the strategy could extend Beats beyond audio accessories. It would also give Apple a lower-risk route into gaming hardware while strengthening the iPhone’s position as a serious gaming device.
