Psyren anime finally has a premiere date: October 5, 2026

Crunchyroll has finally put a date on the long-awaited Psyren anime. The adaptation of Toshiaki Iwashiro’s Weekly Shonen Jump manga is set to premiere on October 5, 2026.

This comes at a pretty good moment for it. Iwashiro’s manga already has a solid reputation, and not just among longtime Jump readers. It ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2007 to 2010, covering 145 chapters, and now it’s landing right as several Jump series wrapped up in 2026. The old heavyweights don’t dominate the way they used to, so there’s room again for fans and streaming platforms to rally around a new action series with real flagship potential.

Psyren follows high schooler Ageha Yoshina, whose life goes sideways after a strange “Psyren” card drags him, along with classmate Sakurako Amamiya, into a ruined world built around a lethal survival game. That setup lets the series pull from a few different directions at once: survival thriller, sci-fi mystery, dark fantasy, plus a little isekai flavor. The PSY psychic abilities are another big draw. They’re flexible, strategic, and a lot of fans have long compared the fights to Hunter x Hunter’s Nen because of how tactical they can get.

If you’ve been waiting for the next big shonen series, this feels like one to watch. For years, Psyren sat in that overlooked-gem category for fans, living in the shadow of the Big Three, One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach, and sharing an era with Bakuman and Gintama. Now it’s finally getting its shot, and early word from Crunchyroll says the anime will cover the full manga, with Toshiaki Iwashiro supervising the script.

You’ll be able to see Episode 1 early at Crunchyroll and Sony’s Crunchyroll Anime Nights SNEAK PEEK on September 21. After that, the full series starts streaming on Crunchyroll in October.
