Last week saw Prime Video cancel <a href="https://comicvibe.com/hasbro-announces-new-retro-spider/” title=”Hasbro Announces New Retro Spider”>Spider-Noir, only for it to walk away with five Emmys two days later. With no apparent plans to try and get the show renewed, showrunner Oren Uziel is taking the wins in stride.
“It was my first TV show, and my first Emmys experience. […] I thought it’d be disappointing timing at first,” he told Variety earlier this week. “I didn’t want people going to this big night on Sunday having to worry or think about something disappointing or sad. But the truth is, it became kind of a big celebration of what we accomplished together.” For Uziel and the others attending, winning for stunt performance, title design, and other categories made for an invigorating, albeit bittersweet experience: “This show was the best experience of my life, and we all got to make exactly what we wanted. My biggest regret about not having another season is that I don’t get to do it again with these people.”
As for what that other season would’ve entailed, Uziel said he wanted Nicolas Cage’s Ben Reilly to naturally take on a whole new case. That would’ve led to a location swap, with him teasing there were “so many L.A. [or] European noirs” we could’ve dove into.” And with Spider-Noir taking place in the 1930s, the show would eventually line up with World War II, which has “a lot of storytelling that could’ve happened.”
Even with those ideas, Uziel took the same stance as Cage and reiterated the show works generally fine as a single-season affair. He’s got “no regrets,” and the experience making the show was so good, he’s really hoping to reunite with the crew and cast on something else if the timing ever lines up. And if Prime Video’s next Marvel shows need someone to pitch in, he’s down for that, too.
