Save $10 Off the PlayStation 5 Disc Drive
The PlayStation 5 disc drive is compatible with the PS5 Slim Edition console only, not the original bulkier model. It attaches neatly onto your PS5 Slim digital edition console without any tools required. You essentially pop off the original cover and snap the drive into place. You will, however, need an active internet connection to set it up.
The disc drive allows you to play PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 games on physical disc media just like the disc edition console. Keep in mind, however, that starting January 2028, newly released PlayStation games will be exclusively digital, so going forward this won’t be as big of a perk as it used to be. Also, it’s important to note that some “physical” copies of games are simply voucher codes in physical boxes. For example, although Grand Theft Auto V included a physical disc, the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI game will be a code in a box.

In fact, the bigger reason to upgrade to this drive is so that you can watch movies from physical 4K Blu-ray disc media. 4K Blu-ray players are increasingly more difficult to find and when you do stumble onto one, it’s not cheap.
