While Philadelphia Eagles fans don’t need stats to back up their loyalty to the team, some new numbers are confirming what so many already know about their beloved Birds.
The Nielsen Scarborough NFL Fandom Index measures eight facets of fan bases: apparel purchases, general interest, live-event attendance, betting intent, social media engagement, radio listenership, streaming habits, and TV viewership.
According to a CBS News Philadelphia report, Nielsen ranked the Philadelphia market No. 5 overall based on those metrics. Buffalo headed the list, followed by Kansas City, Green Bay, and Cincinnati. New York ranked at the bottom of the index.
While the No. 5 spot might be a blow to die-hard Eagles fans, here’s actually what’s behind the ranking numbers:
Apparel Purchases
In apparel purchasing, Philadelphia sits at No. 3, trailing only Kansas City and Buffalo.
Event Attendance
Live-event participation is mid-pack, with Philadelphia at No. 13 in events attended.
Interest Level
In a city that embraces its professional sports teams, fans certainly turn out in droves, bleeding green for their team during Eagles season.
Fan passion gave Philadelphia a No. 5 spot in this category, just behind Buffalo, Kansas City, Green Bay, and Cincinnati.
Sports Betting
Philadelphia fans exhibit high betting interest, ranking No. 2 in betting intent, just behind Minneapolis.
The Eagles are considered 5.5-point favorites in their season opener against the Commanders
Digital engagement remains strong among Birds fans. Philadelphia ranks No. 4 in streaming and No. 5 in social media following, with Eagles-related social presence highlighted by roughly 4.8 million Instagram followers.
TV Viewers and Radio Listeners
Traditional media engagement sits mid-range for Philadelphia, with No. 9 in both radio listenership and TV viewership. Philadelphia ranked behind Buffalo, Green Bay, Kansas City, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, and Detroit in this category.
