The Netflix series Ransom Canyon has been canceled after two seasons.
Minka Kelly and Josh Duhamel led the cast of the streamer’s western romance series, in which they played childhood friends who later became lovers as adults.
Deadline first reported the cancellation news, citing low viewership for the second season as the reason behind Netflix pulling the plug on the show.
More details behind the Ransom Canyon cancellation
Deadline reports that season one of Ransom Canyon had “respectable” viewership, which earned it a second season, but it was never a giant hit with massive amounts of viewers.
The second season was given a smaller episode order and the show underwent major changes, which were reportedly received well by internal Netflix execs. Unfortunately, the changes didn’t lead to more viewers.
Season two only spent three weeks in Netflix’s Top 10, compared to the first season’s four weeks.
“With Netflix weighing cost vs. performance for its renewal decisions, the Season 2 viewership likely was not enough to secure another season for a show that has considerable budget given its marquee-name leads,” Deadline reports.
Minka recently opened up about trying to add her real-life boyfriend into the show.
