Fortnite played a huge role in inspiring one of the key mechanics in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation: parachuting.

The developers have finally announced a release date for the highly anticipated finale of their remake series: April 8, 2027. Ahead of launch, players still have plenty of questions about the game, including whether it will include parachuting, and Revelation’s director has recently addressed the topic.

FF7 Revelation Director Says Games Like Fortnite Have Made Players Familiar With the Idea of Parachuting

During an interview with IGN, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi discussed how the idea of parachuting came about and how Fortnite was an inspiration. Hamaguchi said the developers had the idea of “the party parachuting down from the Highwind” early in development. Hamaguchi also discussed that bringing Highwind down in this “very high fidelity open world” would pose geographical challenges for the map.

Hence, the developers thought Final Fantasy 7 Revelation should include parachuting, noting, “when you look at other games, specifically like Fortnite, it did seem that players, modern audiences, were pretty familiar or welcome to this idea of characters flying down the air using parachutes.” Hence, Hamaguchi decided this could be a “fun way” to give players a seamless transition from the air to the ground.

A lot of battle royale titles do feature the parachuting mechanic, and Fortnite’s Battle Bus system has been around for a long time, so it makes sense that a lot of the community is familiar with the concept. However, would you have liked a different way to transition from Highwind to the ground, or does Parachuting work best?
