Viola Davis talks latest passion project ‘The Woman King’

Viola Davis is fabulous!
The Oscar winner tops AARP’s Movies for Grownups’ 25 Most Fabulous Gen X Actresses list, which “honors powerhouse female talent who continue to break barriers, command screens, and redefine what it means to be a Gen X actress in Hollywood,” according a news release.
The rankings pay homage to Generation X, which is classified as people born between roughly 1965 and 1980.
“Now, at roughly between the ages of 45 to 61, this generation of Hollywood actresses have not faded from the screen, but have built production companies, developed their own projects, and reinvented themselves behind the camera as directors, producers, and entrepreneurs fighting for equal pay and breaking stereotypes,” AARP’s Movies for Grownups said in a statement.
“They are far from slowing down and are doing the most ambitious work of their careers.”
Davis, 61, is the oldest person on the list and said in a statement connected to the honor, “My ability to overcome and to challenge and to believe in my ability is mine.” She survived a poor childhood marked by food insecurity to emerge as a critically acclaimed actor, winning a best supporting actress Academy Award for “Fences” and earning three other nominations in her career.
“When you come to Hollywood, I think women over 40, then over 50, you feel like you’ve just sort of disappeared and fallen off a cliff,” she told AARP’s Movies for Grownups. “Like you’re invisible. So, it’s nice to know that that’s not true. I feel like my value is going up. It feels fabulous.”
