    Hypertune, a subsidiary of Miami-based PC optimization technology company Compready, publicly launched its automatic tuning platform for PC gaming, also called “Hypertune,” on September 8, 2026. The software is the product of years of manual-tuning expertise the company has accumulated, developed with official technical support from Intel. It is designed to safely complete hardware adjustments—work that has traditionally required specialized knowledge and trial and error—with a single click. Behind the marketing claim of “up to 60% higher frame rates,” questions remain about how much benefit real-world systems can actually expect, and whether a monthly subscription is the right way to deliver this kind of tool.

    Built on the XTU SDK: How Intel and a famous overclocker joined forces

    Hypertune’s development is led by Austin Copeland, who previously coached the VALORANT team for the North American esports organization TSM. Copeland co-founded Compready with Thomas Schappy, and the two have run a personalized PC optimization service for competitive gamers. Hypertune represents the distillation of that expertise into an automated tool for the broader gaming public.

    The standout feature is its direct integration of the software development kit (SDK) for Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU), Intel’s official processor-tuning framework. Third-party optimization software often makes irreversible changes to the Windows registry or forces a one-size-fits-all settings profile onto every system. Hypertune, by contrast, was built with engineering support from Intel Senior Principal Engineer Dan Ragland and others to dynamically diagnose each PC’s individual silicon characteristics and operating environment.

    Pieter-Jan Plaisier, an overclocker known worldwide for extreme tuning of Intel CPUs under the handle SkatterBencher, also contributed to development. Plaisier’s overclocking theory, which balances stability with long-term durability, is reflected in the tool’s automated stress-testing and parameter-calculation logic.

    Ahead of the official launch, the company ran an eight-month open beta test. More than 60,000 participants took part, including competitive gamers and the well-known streamer Shroud (Michael Grzesiek), testing the software across a wide range of hardware configurations.

    The software’s intervention is confined to the hardware-control and OS-settings layers. Because it does not modify game executables or program code, it is designed to avoid conflicts with major anti-cheat systems such as Riot Vanguard, Easy Anti-Cheat, and BattlEye.

    A 28.2% gain versus a 4.3% plateau: the gap between games

    While the company advertises frame-rate gains of up to 60%, that figure should not be treated as a standard result achievable on every PC. Hypertune’s own internal benchmark data reveals a clear gap in benefits depending on hardware configuration and the characteristics of the specific game title.

    Two test rigs were used in the benchmarks. The first was an ultra-high-end configuration pairing the Arrow Lake–generation flagship CPU, the Core Ultra 9 285K, with a GeForce RTX 5090. The second was an upper-midrange configuration featuring the Raptor Lake Refresh–generation Core i7-14700K paired with a GeForce RTX 3080.

    On the Core Ultra 9 285K and GeForce RTX 5090 configuration, Hypertune recorded a 28.2% frame-rate gain in Tomb Raider and an 18.9% gain in Homeworld 3. By contrast, on the Core i7-14700K and GeForce RTX 3080 configuration, the gain in Rainbow Six Siege was only 9.8%, and Marvel Rivals saw a mere 4.3% improvement.

    The main driver behind this disparity is where the bottleneck lies in each game. The Core Ultra 9 285K still has headroom for thermal and power-limit adjustments, and in titles like Homeworld 3, where CPU compute load tends to be the bottleneck, raising CPU clocks translates directly into higher average frame rates.

    Where hardware tuning ends and in-game setting changes begin

    A closer look at Hypertune’s feature set reveals that genuine hardware performance gains are mixed together with what amount to simple reductions in graphics settings. The software is built around a “Smart Optimization Engine” and consists of five main pillars: CPU and GPU clock adjustment, memory acceleration, network configuration, and a feature called “Game Hub” that manages in-game settings.

    What deserves careful scrutiny is the breakdown of where frame-rate gains actually come from. When hardware media outlet Tom’s Hardware examined the contribution of each component, it found that only a small portion of the 9.8% improvement recorded in Rainbow Six Siege came from hardware control itself—the bulk of the gain came from Game Hub automatically switching the game’s in-game graphics settings to a competitive-oriented preset.

    Game Hub automatically switches resolution scaling and various effect quality settings to a frame-rate-priority profile. However, this type of adjustment can already be made for free by users themselves through NVIDIA’s GeForce Experience or a game’s own graphics menu.

    Of course, for casual gamers unfamiliar with manual settings adjustments, the convenience of applying competitive-optimized settings with a single click is not to be dismissed. In addition, the hardware-level optimizations performed via the XTU SDK—CPU clock adjustments, automated stress testing to identify the stability limits of individual silicon, and reduced memory latency—are executed non-destructively and reversibly, sparing beginners the risk of manually entering voltage values in a BIOS screen.

    Still, readers should clearly distinguish between the effect they may be hoping for—”magic” that unlocks hardware’s hidden true potential—and what the tool actually delivers in part: a convenience feature that boosts frame counts by lowering graphics quality.

    The question raised by a $9.99-a-month subscription

    The single biggest point of contention in evaluating Hypertune’s value is its pricing and revenue model. Rather than offering the tool as a one-time purchase, the company provides it as an ongoing subscription: $9.99 per month or $69.99 per year. On top of that, it sells “Expert Tuning” sessions—where a technician remotely accesses a customer’s PC to perform manual adjustments—for $80 per session.

    Asked why the company chose a subscription model, Copeland pointed to the sharp recent rise in hardware prices. Citing the exorbitant street prices of next-generation flagship GPUs like the GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5080, as well as a global rise in DRAM prices, he explained that the goal was to offer an affordable way for users to extract a bit more performance from their existing PCs without having to swap in expensive new parts. He argues that in today’s environment, where Windows monthly updates and game patches are released frequently, ongoing development costs are needed to keep tuning logic continuously updated for optimal performance.

    However, the PC community has taken a more skeptical view. Intel’s official XTU is distributed free of charge for CPU tuning, and MSI Afterburner is a well-established free tool for adjusting GPU clocks and power limits.     In an ecosystem where free alternatives are readily available, it remains unclear how many users will be willing to keep paying $69.99 a year for the convenience of automated settings. Tom’s Hardware further cautioned that despite the official site advertising a seven-day free trial, there have been cases where users were billed immediately upon signing up, raising concerns about the transparency of the subscription process.

    For competitive-minded gamers who want to avoid manual trial and error and safely, easily trim the fat from their system, Hypertune is certainly a compelling option. Whether the frame-rate gains on your own rig truly justify the price, however, comes down to an objective assessment of whether your particular PC configuration is actually constrained by hardware-related bottlenecks in the first place.
