Fortnite’s Mega Man Cup Goes Live: Free X and Zero Skins Up for Grabs

    Author:News DeskCategory:News, Date: 8th September, 2026

Epic Games has switched on the Override Series: Mega Man Cup, a limited-time Fortnite tournament running September 8-9 that lets players earn Capcom-themed cosmetics without spending a single V-Buck. The competition is the clearest confirmation yet that Mega Man’s long-teased Fortnite crossover is finally landing, following weeks of datamined hints about which characters from the franchise would join the island.

Three Formats, One Path to Free Mega Man Gear

The Cup isn’t a single event but a trio of separate sessions: a Mobile-only Solos Battle Royale, a standard Duos Battle Royale and a Duos Zero Build bracket. There are a total of three Cups to compete in: Mega Man Mobile Cup Battle Royale (Solos), Mega Man Cup Battle Royale (Duos), and Mega Man Cup Zero Build (Duos). Fortnite Tracker’s mirror of the tournament listing confirms the stakes for competitors: top competitors will earn exclusive Mega Man cosmetic rewards.

There’s also a side objective for players who don’t finish high enough for the main prize. Get 5 eliminations with the Mega Buster to earn the “Override Buster Blast” Spray. That weapon challenge is achievable in any of the three sessions, giving casual players a consolation cosmetic even if the leaderboard doesn’t go their way.

Mega Man, X and Zero Headline the Decrypted Skin Set

While Epic has kept its official cosmetic reveal brief, dataminers have filled in most of the picture ahead of the Cup’s launch. Capcom fan outlet Rockman Corner reported that the X skin will be one of the rewards up for grabs in Fortnite’s Mega Man Cup tomorrow, September 8, according to early decrypted information, and that it also includes a Pickaxe based on Spinning Blade from Mega Man X3. Encrypted files reportedly point to a third fighter, Zero, rounding out a set built around the original Blue Bomber, his X-series successor and the crimson swordsman from the Maverick Hunters.

Epic has already put its own stamp of approval on part of that lineup. Vice reported that Epic Games has released an official teaser trailer confirming two of the Mega Man cosmetics featured in the upcoming crossover, moving the collaboration from pure speculation into confirmed territory even before the full Item Shop listing goes live. Exact pricing for the shop version hasn’t been locked in, though outlets tracking the leaks, including GameRant, estimate the standalone Mega Man outfit will land somewhere in the 1,500-1,600 V-Bucks range once it’s purchasable outright.

Part of a Bigger Chapter 7 Season 4 Crossover Wave

Mega Man’s arrival isn’t a standalone event — it’s the latest instalment in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override, which opened on August 20 with an unusually dense roster of gaming icons. Tech Times reported at launch that Joker from Persona 5, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, Mega Man, and Crash Bandicoot are confirmed for the season but will arrive in the Item Shop on a rotating schedule at separate cost, with Sonic the Hedgehog and Tetris available immediately through the season’s Battle Pass. GosuGamers separately confirmed that Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override starts on 20 August, 2026, when the new map changes and Battle Pass will go live, with Sonic and Tetris available through the Battle Pass from launch.

That rotating rollout explains why Mega Man’s cosmetics only decrypted and entered competitive rotation weeks after the season itself began. It also lines up with Epic’s now-familiar Override Series format, which has already run similar placement-based Cups for other Season 4 collabs, turning free-to-earn skins into a recurring incentive to log in during specific competitive windows.

Oceania Players Get Their Own Session Window

For Australian and New Zealand players wondering whether they’re included, Epic’s own competitive schedule answers that directly: the Override Series session for the Oceania region is listed for September 8, running from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM local time, alongside the North American, European and Asian windows. That means OCE duos and solo mobile competitors get a dedicated shot at the same placement-based rewards as everyone else, rather than having to play at odd hours against overseas server queues.

Anyone who misses the Cup entirely, or falls short of the regional cutoff, won’t be locked out for good. GameRant’s tracking of the rollout notes that if you didn’t win the Mega Man Cup, then don’t worry, you haven’t missed out on Mega Man — he can still be purchased in the Item Shop for V-Bucks, with a shop debut widely expected within days of the tournament closing. For a franchise Capcom has kept largely dormant in mainline releases over the past few years, landing inside one of the world’s most-played battle royales — complete with a competitive spotlight — is arguably the biggest exposure the Blue Bomber has had in years.
