For Star Wars fans, collecting is more than a hobby. It can be a serious investment. The franchise’s enormous and devoted fan base has created a thriving market for everything from vintage action figures to exceptionally rare collectibles, with some sought-after pieces commanding astonishing prices over the years. If you know what to look for, they could even help you make cash on the side.

Here are 12 Star Wars collectibles that have raked in major cash over the years.

Earn as much as $1K doing simple online tasks

A company called Freecash has compiled all sorts of quick cash tasks from about a dozen advertisers and market research companies thirsty for more data. Freecash has paid out over $13 million to users since 2019, and has over 50,000 five-star reviews on Trustpilot.

    Rocket Launcher Boba Fett

This highly sought-after figurine was released in 1978 as a mail-in rebate
option, and only three are known to exist in like-new condition.

    A toy missile
launched from its backpack. The dangers it presented got it quickly pulled from
production, and pre-orders were adjusted to non-firing weapons before they were
    distributed.

In August of 2024, this became the most expensive toy ever sold when one went
for $1.34 million. Its value may have increased in recent years due to the
popularity of The Mandalorian television show.

    Darth Vader with Double-Telescoping Lightsaber

This highly sought-after figurine was released in 1977 and features a
double-telescoping lightsaber. This means the tip of the saber slides in and out
of the stem, allowing it to get longer.

Because people have manufactured fakes, authenticating one is rare. An
authentically carded version is currently valued at around $6,500 or above.
There’s currently a Kenner Star Wars Darth Vader 12A Back for sale on eBay for
    $5,875.75.

    Luke Skywalker with Double-Telescoping Lightsaber

The double-telescoping line of lightsabers produced more than one rare figurine.
However, these were delicate, and the saber snapped frequently, so finding them
in decent condition can be difficult.

One in fair condition with minor cosmetic issues is currently listed for
    $1,099.99 at Dallas Vintage Toys.

    Obi-Wan Kenobi with Double-Telescoping Lightsaber

The third figurine in this rare and high-valued series is fan-favorite Obi-Wan
Kenobi. It was crafted so early in the production process for the movie that
each saber is yellow, which was the originally intended color for Obi-Wan’s
    weapon.

There are only around 20 believed to exist, so it’ll be hard to find. This toy
raked in $76,700 in a 2017 online auction.

    Death Squad Commander

The Kenner line of Star Wars collectibles has some super valuable items,
including this rare Death Squad Commander toy. The name of the Imperial officers
irked consumers and was considered too dark for children. The company renamed
the figurines to “Star Destroyer Commanders.”

Only a few of these remain in good condition, and they are rumored to go for
around $6,500. One in mint condition with a mint card is currently listed on
    eBay for $4,975.75.

    Bib Fortuna Action Figure Prototype

The first version of the Bib Fortuna action figure donned a red cape and looks a
little more like Santa Claus than we’d like to admit.

The one that made it to the production line had a black cape, so finding the
rare, coveted red cape could bring you in some big money. In 2019, the figurine
    sold for around $45,000.

    Lego Millennium Falcon

Today, Lego sells its coveted Millennium Falcon for $849.99, one of the brand’s
most expensive sets. This first edition, manufactured in 2007, was in production
    for just a year.

You can find one in its original packaging listed currently for $6,500 on eBay.
2008 and 2009 models will go for much less.

    1977 Topps Luke Skywalker

If you’re into collectibles with a smaller footprint than figurines, trading
cards have long been an option for dedicated Star Wars fans. The 1977 Topps
release of Luke Skywalker’s first-ever trading card is highly valued. It shows
Skywalker, his chest and head framed, gazing into the distance, wearing his
    Stormtrooper outfit.

There are plenty in circulation that can grab you a good chunk of change, but
only nine of these first-edition cards exist in mint condition. One sold for a
    whopping $78,000 in 2023.

    Vinyl Cape Tatooine Jawa

The first run of this toy was in 1978. Jawa was wearing a vinyl cape, which the
executives at Kenner discontinued because of how cheap it looked.

    Newer versions
of the release include cotton capes, and those with the original vinyl are said
to be the holy grail of Star Wars figurines and worth some good cash.

There are believed to be only about five or six in existence. One in mint
condition is currently listed on eBay for $35,000.

    MTV 7-Inch Mini-Rig

In 1981, Kenner released a multi-terrain vehicle (MTV) figurine that wasn’t
actually featured in the Star Wars franchise. An all-terrain vehicle to
help move related figurines through the Star Wars universe, it was designed with
a pilot’s seat and two large wheels.

The laser cannon made it a more exciting toy, and it was reissued three times
before ending production in 1983. It is estimated to be worth $7,000.

Lego Star Wars: Cloud City Set

An unopened Lego Star Wars: Cloud City Set could rake you in some cash. This
698-piece set is less involved than others but includes mini versions of top
players in the franchise. You will find Lando Calrissian, a Stormtrooper, Darth
Vader, Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, Han Solo, and Princess Leia.

An unopened set recently sold for $10,199 on eBay. Other sets in various
conditions are currently listed for several thousand dollars.

1982 1st Commercial Release “Star Wars: A New Hope” VHS

If you happened to get a 1982 VHS release of Star Wars: A New Hope and
never got around to opening it, you may be sitting on a fortune.

You can identify this super rare find by the Twentieth Century Fox Video
horizontal watermarks and the ID #R513243. A factory-sealed copy of this release
    last sold for $114,000.

    Bottom line

All things considered, it might be time to look into how valuable some of your
old collectibles may be to stretch
your retirement dollars further. Even if they aren’t in pristine condition,
you could make a good amount of cash off of them depending on how in-demand they
    are.

Check online collectible auction sites and eBay to see if you may be sitting on
    some hidden treasures.
