Linda Cardellini and David Harbour take awards for supporting roles in limited or anthology series; Betty Gilpin, Shailene Woodley, Ernest Harden Jr. and the late Rob Reiner win for guest performances.
Widow’s Bay led the way on night two of the 78th Emmy Awards. The Apple TV mash-up of comedy and horror about a New England island community beset with eerie, unexplained phenomena won eight Emmys. Close behind with six was DTF St. Louis, the HBO limited series that subverts the suburban-noir genre to reveal a moving story of male friendship and middle-aged angst.
Others with multiple wins included Spider-Noir with five; The Pitt and Pluribus with four; Beef, Margo’s Got Money Troubles and Palm Royale with three; and two apiece for Bridgerton and Fallout.
The Sunday ceremony featured more performing categories than in previous years, with the addition of supporting actor and actress in a limited or anthology series or movie, as well as the usual four guest actor and actress awards.
Linda Cardellini and David Harbour took the Emmys for their supporting performances in DTF St. Louis. Among drama series, Shailene Woodley won for her guest role in Hulu’s post-apocalyptic political thriller Paradise, and Ernest Harden Jr. prevailed for his guest role in the HBO Max medical ensemble The Pitt. In the comedy genre, Betty Gilpin scored for her guest role in Widow’s Bay, and the late Rob Reiner was honored for his guest performance in FX’s restaurant-set The Bear.
In addition to Gilpin, Widow’s Bay won Emmys for its casting, production design, sound editing, sound mixing, cinematography, music supervision and music composition.
Beyond Cardellini and Harbour, DTF St. Louis creator Steve Conrad took awards for writing and directing, and the show also won for its picture editing and cinematography.
Prime Video’s Spider-Noir, a stylish Depression-era tale based on the Marvel character Spider-Man Noir, won its five for cinematography, stunt coordination for a comedy, title design, special visual effects and sound editing.
In addition to Harden, The Pitt prevailed for its casting, prosthetic makeup, and music and lyrics for the song “Need Someone.”
Pluribus, the existential sci-drama from Apple TV, delivered Emmys for its main title theme music, production design, picture editing and sound mixing.
The second installment of Beef, the Netflix anthology steeped in themes of identity, conflict and economic inequality, won for its costumes, sound editing and sound mixing; Margo’s Got Money Troubles, the Apple TV comedy based on the novel by Rufi Thorpe, was honored for its costumes, hairstyling and makeup; and another Apple TV program, the South Florida-set comedy Palm Royale, for its costumes, makeup and choreography.
Bridgerton, Netflix’s Regency-era series from producer Shonda Rhimes, won for its hairstyling and for Julie Andrews’s character voice-over performance, and the Prime Video sci-fi opus Fallout was honored for its costumes and production design.
In addition to the Emmys voted on by the Television Academy membership, the Sunday ceremony introduced a special new honor, the Legacy Award, created to salute a television program that has made a profound and generational impact on audiences and remains relevant to society, culture and the industry today. The inaugural recipient, introduced by actress June Diane Raphael, was one of television’s most beloved and enduring comedy series, I Love Lucy, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this fall.

Bob Bain was executive producer of the first weekend of Emmy shows for the 12th time. The Television Academy’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards Committee is led by cochairs Yvette Cobarrubias and Lee Hollin.
FXX will broadcast edited highlights from the Saturday and Sunday Emmys shows on Saturday, September 12, at 8:00 PM ET/PT. It will be available for streaming on Hulu the following day.
The 78th Emmys telecast will air live Monday, September 14, on NBC and stream on Peacock.
