Boise Comic Arts Festival returns to Boise Centre (CBS2)
BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) —Comic book fans packed Boise Centre this weekend as the Boise Comic Arts Festival returned with a free event built around creativity, community, and the people who make comics.
The festival featured 25 guest creators along with dozens of exhibitors, workshops and performances. “BCAF is a celebration of all things comics, bringing together a diverse lineup of renowned comic book artists, writers, and publishers,” said Boise Public Library Events Coordinator Josh Shapel. “Attendees could participate in hands-on workshops, cosplay contests, a parade, artist panels, gaming, and more. No visit to BCAF is complete without a journey through Artist’s Alley, which gathers together more than 100 guest creators, vendors, and exhibitors.”
Organizers also highlighted special guest appearances by influential figures in the comics industry, giving fans opportunities to meet artists, get autographs and take part in discussions about the creative process behind well-known characters and stories.
Absolute Green Arrow writer Pornsak Pichetshote made his BCAF debut this year and discussed the Arrowverse during a panel on Sunday. Ignition Press Editor-in-Chief and Boise local Jamie S. Rich and artist Megan Levens shared their new comic, The Dogsitters, which is set in Boise. Eisner-award-winning creators of Santos Sisters, Greg & Fake, also appeared at the festival, bringing their indie-comics style and humor.
The event also included a Kids’ Corner, a Teen Zone, a Gaming Arena and BCAF Reads, a new Treasure Valley-wide community book club. Organizers said the reading selections were chosen to spark conversation and encourage readers of all ages to explore storytelling through graphic novels.
This year’s BCAF Reads selections were The Lionharts by Mike Lawrence for kids, Navigating with You and Do Admit: the Mitford Sisters and Me by Mimi Pond for adults
