Mike Tyson transitioned from boxing champion to pop-culture heavyweight through memorable team-ups across film, music, and entertainment.

Mike Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history at age 20, dominating the sport throughout the late 1980s with unmatched power inside the ropes. Over the decades that followed, the Brooklyn native took that larger-than-life energy into film sets, recording studios, and live stages across the globe. When he sat down with Young Hollywood backstage during his solo stage production run, he reflected on the discipline that carried him from the gym to mainstream entertainment.

“And you remember, Mike, to be careful how you fight your fight because the way you fight your fights will be the way you live your life,” Mike Tyson told Young Hollywood. That mindset steered his creative partnerships through dozens of public projects over the years. Young Hollywood has published 37 stories about Tyson since 2009, tracking his shift into a full-fledged entertainment figure. Watch our full sit-down with Mike Tyson below.

Mike Tyson and Todd Phillips in The Hangover

When director Todd Phillips cast Tyson in the 2009 comedy The Hangover, it unlocked an entirely new audience for the boxing icon. Playing an exaggerated version of himself inside a lavish Las Vegas mansion, Tyson introduced himself to a new generation of moviegoers with perfect comedic timing. Air-drumming along to Phil Collins and defending his pet tiger alongside the film’s ensemble cast showed an unexpected, lighthearted side to a figure previously known purely for ferocity.

The collaboration proved so popular that Phillips brought Tyson back for the 2011 sequel The Hangover Part II, setting him up as a recurring charm of the blockbuster franchise. Tyson demonstrated that he could share the screen with established Hollywood comedians while retaining his unmistakable signature identity. That box-office smash opened doors for cameos across television, movies, and animated series, solidifying his status as a mainstream screen personality.

Mike Tyson and Chris Brown in the Training Ring

In early 2017, pop star Chris Brown found himself booked for a heavily publicized exhibition boxing match against rapper Soulja Boy. Rather than keeping the spectacle strictly between recording artists, Tyson stepped into the mix to serve as Brown’s personal corner coach and trainer. Tyson embraced the mentor position immediately, promising to share veteran ring tactics and defensive footwork ahead of the scheduled bout.

The dynamic quickly captured headlines across the music and sports landscapes as Tyson shared training clips and gave commentary on Brown’s punching technique. While organizers eventually called off the Dubai-based event, the creative link between Tyson and Brown showed how seamlessly the former champion could jump into hip-hop circles and turn a training camp into a major entertainment spectacle. Tyson treated the dynamic with trademark enthusiasm, using his decades of technical expertise to guide a fellow performer through boxing fundamentals.

Mike Tyson and His Podcast Storytelling Partners

In recent years, Tyson transformed his career once again by launching a high-profile podcast platform that pairs him with leading figures in music, sports, and film. Sitting across from fellow athletes, chart-topping musicians, and comedians, Tyson uses long-form conversations to examine the realities of stardom, personal growth, and competition. His unfiltered interview style creates an environment where guests open up about their biggest triumphs and hardest lessons.

“They understand these stories. So if any of these stories are bogus, they’ll be the first ones to come out,” Tyson told Young Hollywood regarding the honesty he brings to his public storytelling. By inviting collaborators into his studio each week, Tyson built a thriving media brand that commands millions of views and streams. The show bridges the gap between old-school athletics and modern digital entertainment, proving his magnetic presence translates effortlessly to streaming screens.

Whether commanding the big screen in record-breaking comedies, mentoring recording artists on boxing basics, or breaking down personal history on live stages, Tyson turns every joint venture into a show. His willingness to collaborate across industries keeps his name front and center in entertainment culture, showing that true heavyweights never stop expanding their reach.
