U2 celebrated with collectible Irish coin

The €2 coin begins circulation later this month

Central Bank of Ireland will launch a special commemorative coin to celebrate U2’s 50th anniversary. The official €2 coin will be available as Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) and Proof Quality starting on <a href="https://comicvibe.com/karinderya-codes-<a href="https://comicvibe.com/all-the-canceled-and-renewed-tv-shows-this-month-september-2026/” title=”All the Canceled and Renewed TV Shows This Month (September 2026)”>september-2026/” title=”Karinderya codes (September 2026)”>September 25th.

Further details, including the coin designs, are expected before launch.

The collector coins and coin sets are available to buy directly from the Central Bank website.

Proof coins are collectable coins not intended for general circulation. They are minted using specially polished dies and blanks that give them a mirror-like finish. These coins are struck at least twice during the minting process and are individually handled and protectively stored in order to prevent tarnishing.

General circulating coins are struck once during the minting process and are handled in bulk, with a defined, intricate and shiny appearance of proof coins that give them their collectable quality.

Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) coins are struck using specially prepared dies and polished blanks, producing a crisp, brilliant finish with sharper details than ordinary circulating money, though without the deep, mirror-like background of a Proof coin. The Central Bank of Ireland regularly issues both BU and Proof coins as official legal tender to commemorate national heritage, historic milestones, and cultural icons. Because these commemorative pieces are produced specifically for numismatists, they are sold directly through specialized mint programs rather than released into everyday pocket change.

U2 has released over a dozen songs in the past year as they prep to release their first album in nine years later this year. “Street of Dreams” was released this summer as the first song from the upcoming yet-untitled project, and follows two themed EPs, Easter Lily and Days of Ash EP, both released in the spring, along with “Fireflies” with Dutch DJ and producer Martin Garrix. It also follows last week’s release of Shane MacGowan’s high-energy track “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah,” a powerful new interpretation that’s featured as a standout track on the upcoming tribute album, 20th Century Paddy – The Songs of Shane MacGowan, set for release on November 13th, via Rubyworks.
