BTS’ J-Hope has possibly given ARMY the most precious and emotional gift among all seven members. He has added another tattoo to his collection, but this time, the stakes are different. The reason is emotional and has already left global ARMY teary-eyed. Hobi’s latest ink is an absolute dedication to the band’s massive fanbase. Ever since the rapper revealed a new design during the group’s Day 2 concert in Los Angeles, social media has not kept calm. It’s not just body art, it’s a tribute to BTS and ARMY. The design is of the septet recreating the iconic ‘ARMY’ pose from their 2022 track, Butter.

    J-Hope reveals new tattoo

The discovery came during the soundcheck ahead of the second night in LA. Eagle-eyed fans spotted a huge new tattoo on the back of J-Hope’s thigh. Later, at the LA concert, RM and V made sure the audience had a good view of it. And when the reason behind the design emerged, it became even more touching.

Interestingly, this comes after RM’s newest tattoo saying “A HUMAN” on the inside of his biceps grabbed attention.

    Tattoo spells ‘ARMY’ by BTS

The tattoo shows the BTS members forming the word ‘ARMY’ with their bodies, mimicking the iconic pose from Butter. The reference is to the choreography/performance of the BTS hit, especially the moment related to the lyric of having ARMY behind them. Fans instantly recognised the silhouette when J-Hope flaunted a sneak peek of his tattoo during soundcheck.

Simple idea, with a meaningful tone

Instead of tattooing the word ARMY itself, Jeon Jung-Hoseok selected an image that symbolises BTS and their fans together. The tattoo essentially immortalises one of the group’s most well-known displays of fan devotion.

RM spoke about J-Hope’s tattoo dedication

The tattoo reveal was even more emotional during the ending part of the LA concert. While seated on the stage to interact with fans, V nudged RM to push J-Hope to reveal his tattoo. RM showed off his new ink and made sure the audience could see it on the big screen. He said it was the biggest tattoo J-Hope had ever had before he talked about the connection between the group and their fandom.

RM also got a 'A HUMAN' tattoo

RM’s words captured the heart of the tattoo: “I want to show J-Hope’s new tattoo. Do you guys see that? That’s the biggest tattoo he’s ever had. ARMY with BTS. BTS and ARMY.” And then finally, Hobi summed up perfectly what the tattoo meant: “BTS ARMY forever!”

The band later also recreated the iconic ‘ARMY’ backstage, and their photo was a nostalgic nod to the original pose. The photo went viral in no time.

    Emotions behind ‘ARMY’

For those who were watching inside the venue and for those who were seeing the live stream and clips online, it was a lot more than a casual tattoo reveal. J-Hope has always had a very special relationship with ARMY. His identity as an artist has been linked to the idea of giving fans hope, energy, and encouragement.

His pre-existing tattoos also had deeply personal meanings. In 2022, he joined the other BTS members in getting BTS’ friendship tattoo – the number 7, which symbolises the seven members. Later, he added the words “I’m Your Hope” and “You’re My Hope” to his legs, turning his signature introduction into permanent body art.

But this newest tattoo feels different. That’s because the previous designs were about J-Hope himself, his identity, and his connection with BTS. This one puts ARMY right in the picture. It is not just saying that J-Hope loves ARMY. It represents the idea that BTS and ARMY are synonymous and together.
