- ‘Red Roots’: The New Comic Series Robert Kirkman Says You Need to Read
Lorenzo de Felici is making a highly anticipated shift from superstar artist to breakout debut writer with his new series, Red Roots, and Image Comics has officially announced that the first volume will be hitting shelves this fall.
The trade paperback collects issues #1-5 of the genre-defying ongoing series, bringing an explosive supernatural mystery to readers. According to the official announcement, the story centers on a high-stakes puzzle-box mystery, drawing comparisons to The Mist, while packing an “explosive genre-twist” reminiscent of The Cabin in the Woods and Oblivion Song. The plot follows a professional killer and a high school teacher whose lives become inextricably linked by a terrifying, mysterious force.

If the creative pedigree alone doesn’t grab you, the praise certainly will. Robert Kirkman, who collaborated with de Felici on the smash-hit Oblivion Song and the Energon Universe’s Void Rivals, has offered high praise for the project: “This is the comic series you’ve been waiting your whole life for.“
De Felici’s recent work has been at the center of some of the most successful comics on the market. His partnership with Kirkmanon Void Rivals turned the title into one of the biggest launches of 2024, currently sitting on its 12th reprint. Red Roots looks to capitalize on that momentum, promising a hypnotic, plot-twisting experience that shifts between “brutal action and unsettling quiet.”
Red Roots, Vol. 1 is set to arrive at local comic book shops on Wednesday, October 21, followed by a wide release at independent bookstores, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers on Tuesday, November 17. The collection will also be available across major digital platforms.
