OpenSea is taking another shot at Solana. More than four years after first introducing Solana NFT trading in beta, the marketplace has brought the blockchain’s collectibles back to its platform, giving users access to some of the ecosystem’s best-known collections alongside assets from more than 25 other networks.

The August 31 launch includes Claynosaurz, Mad Lads, Collector Crypt and Phygitals, with OpenSea also confirming support for BoDoggos. This isn’t OpenSea’s first attempt to break into Solana NFTs.

The marketplace originally launched Solana support in April 2022, when the NFT market was near the height of its previous cycle. That beta initially covered 165 collections, but OpenSea struggled to establish itself against marketplaces built specifically around the Solana ecosystem.

Magic Eden and later Tensor captured much of the network’s NFT trading activity, while OpenSea’s Solana experiment eventually disappeared. Now it is coming back.

    OpenSea Has Changed Since 2022

The timing matters because OpenSea itself has become a very different platform.

Its OS2 overhaul rebuilt the marketplace around a multichain model rather than its original Ethereum-heavy NFT business. OpenSea now supports more than 25 blockchains and has expanded beyond NFTs into token trading, cross-chain swaps and portfolio management.

Solana fungible tokens were added to OS2 in April 2025, with NFT support promised for a later date. The latest rollout completes that expansion and makes Solana OpenSea’s first non-EVM blockchain supporting NFT trading since the original beta ended.

“OpenSea should be the home for everything you collect, no matter which chain it lives on,” said OpenSea co-founder and CEO Devin Finzer. “Solana NFTs are now available right alongside its tokens on OpenSea. No switching wallets, no hunting across marketplaces, the whole ecosystem in one place.”

The strategy gives OpenSea something it didn’t have during its first Solana push: a marketplace built from the ground up around trading assets across multiple networks.

Instead of competing solely as another destination for Solana NFTs, OpenSea can offer those collections to users already trading tokens and collectibles elsewhere on the platform.

Solana’s NFT Market Has Its Own Heavyweights

OpenSea is also returning to an ecosystem with established collections and marketplaces. Mad Lads, launched by Backpack in 2023, has grown into one of Solana’s most recognizable NFT communities. The collection consists of nearly 10,000 NFTs and currently carries an OpenSea floor price of roughly $1,000.

Claynosaurz has also expanded well beyond its original NFT collection. The Solana-native entertainment brand now spans animation, gaming, merchandise and digital collectibles, with its original collection carrying a floor price of around $1,180 on OpenSea following the integration.

Those collections give OpenSea recognizable assets to put in front of its existing user base from day one.

They also put the marketplace back into direct competition with Magic Eden, which describes itself as the largest Solana NFT marketplace and continues to support major collections including Mad Lads, Claynosaurz, DeGods and Solana Monkey Business.

That competitive landscape is very different from Ethereum, where OpenSea built its original dominance.

    Why OpenSea Is Trying Again

NFTs are also becoming only one piece of OpenSea’s broader business. The company has increasingly positioned itself as a universal interface for onchain assets, combining NFTs, tokens, swaps and portfolio tools instead of relying entirely on digital collectible trading.

Solana fits naturally into that strategy. The network has developed large markets across memecoins, DeFi, payments and consumer applications, while NFTs remain an established part of its ecosystem. Supporting both Solana tokens and NFTs means OpenSea can now serve more of that activity through a single interface.

For Solana creators, there is another potential benefit: distribution. Collections that previously depended heavily on Solana-native marketplaces can now appear alongside assets from Ethereum, Base, Polygon, Arbitrum and dozens of other networks, potentially exposing them to collectors who would not otherwise visit a dedicated Solana marketplace.

OpenSea’s first attempt at Solana arrived when NFT marketplaces were fighting to dominate individual blockchains. Four years later, the company’s bet is different.

Instead of trying to become the biggest Solana NFT marketplace, OpenSea wants to become the place where users no longer need to care which blockchain their assets live on.

Whether that is enough to pull meaningful Solana NFT volume away from established competitors will determine whether OpenSea’s second attempt succeeds where its first one didn’t.
