Feeling overwhelmed by all of the capital-C “Content” out there and not sure what to watch this weekend? I get it. Nine times out of 10, I end up idly rewatching something silly and comforting like “Grey’s Anatomy” — or, as a much less silly or comforting example, “Succession” — even though there’s plenty of good stuff out there. There’s also just … a lot of stuff. Every streamer, it seems, has something new to watch every single week, and they’re not all going to be winners.
These five are, though! I’ve taken it upon myself (at my editor’s behest, so not really) to track down the best releases that hit major streamers throughout the week of Monday, September 21, that make perfect weekend fare. Get a snack, hydrate, put on your finest sweatpants, and get ready to binge-watch some new releases that are absolutely worth your time and energy during the weekend of September 25 to September 27, 2026.
Unabomber (Netflix)
Netflix, which is also home to Ryan Murphy’s “Monster” anthology series (we’re not including “Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story” on this list because it’s, uh, not good and dropped last week anyway) loves a good true crime story, and with “Unabomber” (which began streaming on September 25), it’s retelling the tale of Ted Kaczynski. One of the worst domestic terrorists in United States history, Kaczynski spent two decades using bombs to terrorize and murder innocent people, all while penning a massive manifesto about how our society should reject technology and embrace violence and revolution.
Probably the wildest thing about Netflix’s “Unabomber” movie — which is directed by Janus Metz Pedersen and written by Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves — is that former child star Jacob Tremblay is the one playing Kaczynski. Tremblay, to jog your memory, rose to prominence portraying a sweet-faced boy who escapes captivity with his mother (Brie Larson, who won an Oscar for her role) in “Room,” the 2015 film about a woman kidnapped by a cruel and violent man. Tremblay is joined in “Unabomber” by Russell Crowe as Harvard professor Henry Murray (who worked with a younger Kaczynski when he attended the Ivy League institution), along with Shailene Woodley as FBI Agent Joanne Miller and Annabelle Wallis as Harvard psychoanalyst Christiana Morgan (who, like Murray, is a real-life figure). “Unabomber” will definitely be dark as it explores two timelines in Kaczynski’s troubled life, but it will admittedly be fascinating to watch Tremblay take on his first truly adult role.
The Love Hypothesis (Amazon Prime Video)
Adapted from Ali Hazelwood’s best-selling novel of the same name (which, in a bizarre twist of fate, began its life as fan fiction about Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren and Daisy Ridley’s Rey from the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy), the Amazon Prime Video original “The Love Hypothesis” is a sweet, funny, and fully charming movie about two hot nerds who manage to find love, and it dropped on the service on September 23. The way they find it is … a bit complicated, though. When Stanford graduate student Olive Smith (the marvelous Lili Reinhart) wants to convince her best friend Anh (Rachel Marsh) that she isn’t carrying a torch for Anh’s crush and their school cohort Jeremy (Nicholas Duvernay), she kisses the first guy she sees and pretends they’re dating. Unfortunately for everyone, that guy is professor Adam Carlsen (Ridley’s real-life husband Tom Bateman, so do with that what you will), a stern, often mean professor despised by every graduate student, including Olive’s other best friend, Malcolm (Jaboukie Young-White).
As it turns out, though, Adam would actually love to fake-date Olive since it will help him secure a grant he needs from Stanford (which is convinced that he’s going to cut and run because he doesn’t have anything keeping him in California). You can, of course, see precisely where this is going (the two fall in love for real while still pretending that the whole thing is just a silly arrangement), but the fact that “The Love Hypothesis” uses such a well-worn trope hardly matters, because it’s just a really fun watch. Grab some friends or a partner, and curl up for this one.
American Horror Story: 13 (Hulu)
Naturally, the 13th season of Ryan Murphy’s painfully long-running anthology series “American Horror Story” is leaning into the inherent creepiness of that number and going with the simple subtitle “13” … though, so far as the cast and narrative are concerned, this will be anything but simple. Indeed, for this landmark season, Murphy has assembled and lured back most, if not all, of his headliners from previous “American Horror Story” seasons, including Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Emma Roberts, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, and, of course, living legend Jessica Lange. So, why isn’t it simple? Well, everyone is playing, like, one to five different roles.
Lange, for example, is reprising all of her previous “American Horror Story” characters (Constance Langdon from “Murder House,” Sister Jude Martin from “Asylum,” Fiona Goode from “Coven,” and Elsa Mars from “Freak Show”), which makes sense, considering that “Freak Show” was initially intended to be her final season. Elsewhere, Peters and Paulson are bringing back players from other seasons like Kai Anderson from “Cult” and Ms. Wilhemina Venable from “Apocalypse,” and there are a ton of fresh faces in here, too. By that, I mean fresh to this franchise, and more specifically, I mean that John Waters, Paul Anthony Kelly, and Tig Notaro are just a few of the huge stars taking part in “American Horror Story: 13.” This season might not be perfect (Murphy’s stuff rarely is), but I promise it won’t be boring. Following its September 24 premiere on FX, it’s now available on Hulu.
Line of Fire (Peacock)
After departing the hit series “9-1-1” in 2025, Peter Krause took just a little bit of time away from the small screen. Now, though, he’s back in Joshua Safran’s new NBC series “Line of Fire,” which premiered on September 21 and is currently streaming on Peacock. The show centers around a family that all works in law enforcement (so, it’s sort of a spiritual successor to the cop family drama “Blue Bloods”) and stars Krause as Mike Hollingsworth, who works for the United States Secret Service as a supervisory special agent. Mike’s estranged wife Jane (Hope Davis, fresh off a truly terrifying turn in the excellent TV crime drama “Furious”) similarly works as a deputy marshal for, you guessed it, the United States Marshals, while their daughter Clare (Kat Cunning) is a special agent for the FBI. Then there’s the family’s three sons: Micah (Tommy O’Brien), himself a special Secret Service agent who guards the President’s daughter, Marine veteran and Department of Justice national security analyst Russ (Taylor Bloom), and Jack (Charlie Barnett), a veteran that everyone believed to be dead who’s also Mike’s son from a previous marriage.
Sure, “Line of Fire” sounds like a rote drama, but the cast — which also includes Sam Waterston and Anna Chlumsky — is pretty great. So, if you’re looking for a new series, give this one a try.
Game Changer Season 8 Finale (Dropout)
“Game Changer” has been a staple of the independent streaming service Dropout for years now, and each season keeps getting bigger, better, and more ambitious. While it’s sad for fans like myself that “Game Changer” just wrapped up another season, I have good news: the Season 8 finale is the series’ longest episode, and it’s really, really funny. And though it aired on September 21, this is the last “Game Changer” you’ll see for a while, and it’s freakin’ great.
For this episode, host and showrunner Sam Reich assembled 23 different members of the Dropout cast, including everyone from Demi Adejuyigbe to Anna Garcia to Jacob Wysocki to the singularly-named Jiavani. Then, a panel of guest judges is introduced — stand-up comedian and frequent Dropout collaborator Gianmarco Soresi, stand-up comedian Maria Bamford, and Kumail friggin’ Nanjiani — to pass judgment on each participant’s one-minute talent show across three stages, creating a sort of bizarre, unwieldy hybrid of “America’s Got Talent” and “Squid Game.” (There’s a pig-shaped piggybank full of Chili’s gift cards that keeps showing up, though Reich is always careful to note that Chili’s did not sponsor the episode.) This finale is perfect for “Game Changer” newbies and diehards alike, it’s eminently silly, and it’s a perfect high-concept capper to yet another great season of the only game show that changes its game for every single show.
