2026’s First $1 Billion Movie Finally Confirms Netflix Release Date

Seven months on from its theatrical release, the billion-dollar blockbuster The Super Mario Galaxymovie has set the date for its Netflix debut.

The Nintendo-Illumination film, which first hit U.S. theaters on April 1, made its streaming debut on Peacock on July 30, thanks to a deal between Universal Pictures, Peacock, and Netflix. According to the terms of the agreement, Universal Pictures films will stay in theaters for a maximum of 120 days, then head to the Peacock streaming service for four months.

Once those four months are over, Netflix picks up the license for the Universal film for 10 months, after which Peacock will pick up the streaming rights once more. According to Peacock, The Super Mario Galaxy Moviewill leave its platform on November 30, and Netflix will reportedly add the film to its U.S. library the same day, as reported by What’s on Netflix.

The Super Mario Galaxy Moviewill join fellow Universal titles Wicked, Jurassic World Rebirth, and Minions: The Rise of Gru, which made their streaming debut on Peacock before migrating to Netflix. Given its November 31 debut, the video game adaptation should be available on the world’s largest streaming service until September 30, 2027, when it will return to Peacock.

Featuring the voice talents of Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Glen Powell, and Brie Larson, the follow-up to The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) scored an impressive $1.013 billion at the box office, despite middling reviews from critics.

Per Universal’s official description of the film, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie“finds Mario (Pratt) and Luigi (Day) solving everyday problems in the Mushroom Kingdom with their ‘let’s-a-go’ attitude. They meet a new friend in Yoshi (Donald Glover), try to reform a miniaturized Bowser (Black), and eagerly look forward to Peach’s birthday party. A call for help sends the crew across the galaxy to face new worlds, unexpected threats, and iconic characters like Rosalina (Larson) and Bowser Jr. (Benny Safdie).”
