    • Viewers struggled to continue watching “The Handmaid’s Tale” due to the protagonist’s irrational decisions and drawn-out plot.
    • “Everybody Loves Raymond” faced criticism for relying on the outdated “useless spouse” trope, making Raymond’s character more frustrating than funny for modern audiences.
    • “Orange is the New Black” viewers found Piper Chapman to be the least interesting character in an ensemble cast full of fascinating personalities.

Every TV fan has encountered a show that they should have loved, if it weren’t for one annoying character they just couldn’t get past. In a <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/1rqk1zl/whats_a_show_that_you_could_not_finish_because_a/?utm_source=syndication&utm_medium=yahoo_news&utm_content=whats-a-show-that-you-could-not-finish-because-a-character-was-so-insufferable” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>discussion on r/AskReddit, “What’s a show that you could not finish because a character was so insufferable?”

In the discussion, redditors commiserate over the series they had to quit mid-binge because the main characters became simply impossible to watch.

    1. June – The Handmaid’s Tale

While the first season was critically acclaimed, many viewers felt the show dragged on too long, relying heavily on close-ups and irrational decisions by the protagonist to keep the plot churning.

    2. Raymond Barone – Everybody Loves Raymond

Sitcom husbands from the ’90s often relied on the “useless spouse” trope, but modern audiences find Raymond’s weaponized incompetence more frustrating than funny.

    3. Piper Chapman – Orange is the New Black

In an ensemble cast full of fascinating, complex personalities, the central character often felt like the least interesting person in the room.

    4. Ted Mosby – How I Met Your Mother

Ted was supposed to be a hopeless romantic, but rewatching the show reveals a picky, judgmental character who fans say didn’t deserve the women he dated.

    5. Elizabeth Keen – The Blacklist

It is hard to keep a crime procedural going when the professional profiler makes bafflingly poor choices in every single episode.

    6. Beth Dutton – Yellowstone

At a certain point, a character who exists solely to be unpleasant stops being a compelling anti-hero and just becomes exhausting.

    7. Dawson Leery – Dawson’s Creek

Rewatching this teen classic is difficult when the title character is so self-obsessed.

    8. Jackie Peyton – Nurse Jackie

Shows about flawed people can be gripping, but there is a limit to how much bad behavior an audience can tolerate before they tune out.

Whether it’s because of bad writing, baffling decisions, or simply being unlikable, a bad main character can sink even the most promising series. Which show did you have to turn off because of your dislike of a character?
