10 Best Animated TV Shows Streaming On Prime Video, Ranked

Prime Video has steadily built up quite the streaming library over the past several years, including animated shows. From anthology series to animated sitcoms, the streaming service has a cartoon for everybody. Some of the Prime Video shows without a single bad season just so happen to be animated ones. Taking that into account, we’re rounding up and ranking our favorite animated series that are currently available to stream on Prime Video.

For the purposes of this list, we’re really putting an emphasis on shows streaming exclusively on Prime Video rather than licensed programming. Even with that consideration in place, there are a lot of quality shows on the platform to choose from. Whether it’s a hard-hitting superhero show or a hellish screwball comedy, these cartoons are among the best being produced today. These are the 10 best animated TV shows streaming on Prime Video ranked and ready for a binge.

    10. The Boys Presents: Diabolical

Given the streaming ratings that “The Boys” enjoyed, the ultraviolent superhero show has received several spin-off series on Prime Video. Before the short-lived “Gen V,” the show’s first spin-off was the 2022 animated series “The Boys Presents: Diabolical.” While largely non-canonical to the events of the main series, the show focuses on different facets of its world of morally compromised and corporately backed superheroes. This ranges from a gory parody of “Looney Tunes” to a direct riff on the comic book source material by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

“The Boys Presents: Diabolical” plays up the dark humor present in the main series with its own anthology approach to the material. The deliriously gory violence is still on full display, but usually done in a way that serves as more of a comedic punchline. Prime Video also pulled out all the stops with its casting, with the spin-off boasting everyone from Don Cheadle to Frances Conroy getting in on the fun. The forgotten spin-off to “The Boys,” “Diabolical” helps wash out the bitter aftertaste of the main series’ divisive final season.

    9. The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy

Klak (Keke Palmer) and Nak Nak Sleech (Stephanie Hsu) stand surprised next to each other in The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy

With medical shows like “The Pitt” and “Scrubs” back in vogue these days, “The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy” puts its own spin on the genre. Running for two seasons from 2024 to 2025, the show takes place in a distant galaxy far into the future. The story centers on cosmic surgeons Nak Nak Sleech (Stephanie Hsu) and Klak (Keke Palmer) as they tackle all sorts of oddball sci-fi cases. Though the show gets a lot of comedic mileage from its interstellar premise, it does take a genuine look at the emotional cost that its main characters endure.

“The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy” is worthy of being counted among the best animated shows for adults. Yes, this is a sci-fi comedy that finds its humor in everything from temporal loops to cerebral parasites, but it has a healthy amount of heart too. This comes from strong writing from series creator Cirocco Dunlap and an impressive voice cast led by Hsu and Palmer, subtly capturing the nuances of their respective roles. A show that deserved wider recognition than it got during its two-season run, “The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy” juxtaposes medical dramedy elements with cosmic stakes.

    8. Undone

With its rotoscope animation style, “Undone” is certainly the most unique-looking animated series to earn a spot on this list. Premiering in 2019, the show opens with its protagonist Alma Winograd-Diaz (Rosa Salazar) enduring a horrific car crash. Through this harrowing experience, Alma seemingly gains the ability to move through and witness time, which she uses to investigate her father’s death. This kicks off an entire time-bending odyssey that not only brings her closer to her dad but has her encounter other individuals who share her mysterious new ability.

There is nothing else that quite looks like “Undone,” with even the show’s quieter scenes a marvel to watch because of its use of rotoscoping. But beyond its presentation, there is an earnest heart that powers the entire series led by Salazar and Bob Odenkirk, with the latter playing Alma’s father, Jacob. A big factor in this is the show’s co-creator being Raphael Bob-Waksberg, who previously created “BoJack Horseman” for Netflix, bringing the soul-searing drama. One of the best sci-fi shows streaming on Prime Video, “Undone” is an overlooked gem that can easily be binged in a single weekend.

    7. The Mighty Nein

Spinning out of “The Legend of Vox Machina” is the standalone sequel series “The Mighty Nein.” Debuting in 2025, the show is set 20 years after the events of its predecessor, following a new generation of medieval fantasy adventurers. Whereas “Vox Machina” starts with its heroic ensemble already together, “The Mighty Nein” assembles its misfit troupe over the course of the first season. The penchant for high fantasy spectacle is still front and center, this time focusing on a powerful relic that endangers the entire realm.

Compared to “The Legend of Vox Machina,” “The Mighty Nein” really leans into how messy its main characters are in the best kinds of ways. These are more flawed figures leading the story, offering a raw tale of redemption rather than their comparatively nobler predecessors. In keeping with this heightened nuance, the show is generally darker in its tone too, though it does bring its own genre-friendly laughs to the mix too. Completely approachable if you never watched “The Legend of Vox Machina,” “The Mighty Nein” maintains Critical Role’s animated winning streak.

    6. Secret Level

One of the more underrated TV shows based on video games is “Secret Level,” an anthology series that premiered in 2024. Following a similar format and level of CG animation as the creative team’s prior work with “Love, Death & Robots,” the show adapts different video games for each episode. The length and tone of the stories vary accordingly, from the more family friendly take on Mega Man to the intense “Warhammer 40,000” tale. What remains consistent throughout the series is just how visually stunning the whole thing is, even if you’re not familiar with the source material.

“Secret Level” is the perfect animated show to binge over a weekend, running for 15 episodes and arguably more digestible than “Love, Death & Robots.” A lot of that accessibility comes from just how varied the show is, ranging from sci-fi comedies to hard-hitting martial arts action. The show is a must-watch for gamers but stays entertaining for viewers just looking for great show-stopping animated set pieces. Among the best TV shows based on video games, “Secret Level” offers a robust range of stories to enjoy.

    5. Helluva Boss

After creating the popular animated series “Hazbin Hotel,” Vivienne Medrano launched the demonic spin-off series “Helluva Boss” in 2019. Like its predecessor, the show started on YouTube before coming to Prime Video in 2025 with a repurposed pilot episode released on the platform ahead of its third season. While set in the same universe as “Hazbin Hotel,” the spin-off follows a completely different cast of characters involved with a professional assassination service based in Hell. Like its sister series, the show mixes dark comedy with original musical numbers reflecting its twisted premise and colorful characters.

“Helluva Boss” is perfectly accessible if you’ve never seen “Hazbin Hotel,” though it shares a lot of the same creative sensibilities. The big difference between the two shows is that the spin-off centers on darker and more consistently vicious characters given their lethal profession. But the comedy is a core part of the series’ appeal, offering an unabashedly supernatural take on workplace sitcom tropes. A lot of freewheeling fun that builds out the fiery world that Medrano created, “Helluva Boss” provides a heck of a good time.

    4. Batman: Caped Crusader

Compared to other superhero properties, DC’s Dark Knight has had a strong run of animated adaptations across his extensive history. Among the best Batman animated shows is “Batman: Caped Crusader,” which debuted on Prime Video in 2024. A heavily noir-inspired take on the nocturnal vigilante, the show is set in Gotham City during a nebulous time period in the 1940s. This iteration of Batman (Hamish Linklater) is still at the start of his crime-fighting career, while attending therapy sessions with Harleen Quinzel (Jamie Chung).

While certainly reminiscent of “Batman: The Animated Series,” “Caped Crusader” makes it clear that it’s unlike any Batman show before it. Taking full advantage of its period piece setting, the show really thrives on its moody atmosphere and moral ambiguity. The second season also dials up the violence considerably, embracing the creative possibilities of streaming compared to prior DC animated series produced for broadcast television. A daring take on its iconic superhero’s mythos and colorful characters, “Batman: Caped Crusader” is a bold reimagining of the Dark Knight.

    3. The Legend of Vox Machina

Vax Vessar (Liam O'Brien) and Pike Trickfoot (Ashley Johnson) watch Keyleth (Marisha Ray) get drunk in The Legend of Vox Machina

Before “The Mighty Nein,” the Critical Role crew’s first Prime Video animated series was “The Legend of Vox Machina.” Based on their tabletop RPG campaigns, the show premiered in 2022 and introduced an archetypal fantasy crew of mercenary heroes. The show celebrates common fantasy tropes, like the “Dungeons & Dragons” aesthetics that have clearly inspired it, with a self-aware approach. The Critical Role crew reprises their various fan-favorite characters, from debauched bard Scanlan Shorthalt (Sam Riegel) to the brutish barbarian Grog Strongjaw (Travis Willingham).

Sumptuously animated, “The Legend of Vox Machina” brings the action often and usually with an operatic intensity befitting the genre. But like Critical Role itself, the show’s real appeal is in the colorful personalities that make up the Vox Machina crew. Seeing the ensemble interact, both in the middle of the action and in their quiet moments, is where the true qualities of this sweeping tale really shine through. A fantasy show without a bad season so far, “The Legend of Vox Machina” is a genre show by fans for fans.

    2. Hazbin Hotel

Before “Helluva Boss,” there was “Hazbin Hotel,” Vivienne Medrano’s hellish musical comedy, which came to Prime Video in 2024 after its initial run on YouTube. With Hell routinely purged by angels to counter its overpopulation problems, the show has Charlie Morningstar (Erika Henningsen) decide to rehabilitate souls instead to grant them entry into Heaven. Working with her girlfriend, Vaggie (Stephanie Beatriz), Charlie opens a hotel to help these wayward souls achieve divine atonement. These efforts are punctuated by ribald musical numbers in every episode as Charlie and Vaggie try to keep their hotel up and running.

A TV show based on a webcomic by Medrano while attending the School of Visual Arts in New York City, “Hazbin Hotel” is one of the most overtly fun animated series in years. The show’s steady supply of superb musical numbers and irreverent sense of humor really elevates it above other animated comedies currently being produced. But while the gags generally come from a vulgar place, there is an earnestness to the characters that balances out those tones beautifully. An adult animated comedy that appeals to the theater kid in all of us, “Hazbin Hotel” is well worth the hype that it’s earned over the years.

    1. Invincible

After MTV’s own animated adaptation of “Invincible,” Prime Video took a shot at the Skybound Entertainment comic book tale. The show is part superhero spectacle and part coming-of-age story, largely faithful to the source material by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley. The series centers on Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), who begins to develop superpowers like his extraterrestrial superhero father, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). However, Mark finds the world of superheroics to be far more complicated and dangerous than he ever anticipated, particularly when the murderous truth about his dad stands revealed.

“Invincible” is one of the best superhero TV shows of all time, regardless of being in animation or live-action. The vibrant character designs and operatic scale is retained and expanded upon for the adaptation, with Kirkman himself directly involved with the production. Even with the scale constantly growing and the action always having a vicious carnage to it, the show never loses sight of its characters’ emotional arcs. An absolute marvel that only gets better with each season, “Invincible” is a true superhero epic that celebrates the genre with a self-aware approach.
