Aug. 17 (UPI) — Netflix released the trailer for A Different World on Monday. The revival of the NBC series premieres Sept. 24.
Hillman College welcomes a new freshman class, which includes Deborah Wayne (Maleah Joi Moon). Deborah’s parents, Whitley (Jasmine Guy) and Dwayne (Kadeem Hardison), also appear in the trailer.
Academic advisor Dr. Langhorne (Debbie Allen) is still at Hillman. Freddie Brooks (Cree Summer) and Ron Johnson (Darryl M. Bell) also return. Glynn Turman and Dawnn Lewis were also confirmed in March.
Other freshmen include criminal justice major Rashida Duvall (Alijah Kai), athlete Shaquille Johnson (Cornell Young II), psychology major Amir Rodale (Jordan Aaron Hall), very religious Hazel Henry (Kennedi Reece) and Ghana-Nigerian Kojo Achebe (Chibuikem Uche).
A Different World was a spinoff of The Cosby Show following Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet) to Hillman. Bonet left after the first season. Guy and Hardison told BET’s The Breakfast Club in 2022 that handling Bonet’s real-life pregnancy on the show was debated amongst producers.
While the original series was a sitcom in front of a studio audience, the Netflix version is a single-camera show. Felicia Pride created and showruns this iteration. Allen is an executive producer and directed the first episode.
