Five years ago, Netflix delighted Manifestfans when it picked up the show following a cancellation at NBC after three seasons. The streamer delivered a fourth and final season with a whopping 20 episodes that aired in 2022-2023. Now, Netflix is resurrecting the incredibly chaotic and strange world of Manifestin the form of a spinoff series called Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery. Of course, this announcement came on 8/28, which is the number of the show’s flight that set off its chain of events.
For those who aren’t familiar, Manifestfollows a flight coming back from Jamaica to NYC in 2013. The people on board experience turbulence but arrive safely. The plot twist is that somehow over five and half years have passed, and they have to get back to the lives and people who presumed they were dead. Oh, and those same people are experiencing voices and visions of the future. It is as weird and delightful as it sounds.
This new sci-fi installment will have new characters and storylines and keep the same creative team behind the original series. The creator of Manifest, Jeff Rake, spoke about the spinoff and his desire to bring a new generation of fans into the fold as well as please those who loved the original show.
“I’m delighted to be able to tell a new story for the Manifestfans out there and also for a brand-new audience,” Rake told TUDUM. “It’s been five long years since we showed up on Netflix, and there’s probably half a generation who has never heard ofManifest. We’ve tried to thread the needle in a way that’s rewarding for the OG Manifest fans, but also equally rewarding for people who are brand new to the show.”
