Kenner is the gold standard for vintage Star Warstoys. The manufacturer released its first wave of action figures barely a year after A New Hope, eventually expanding into vehicles and playsets. In fact, Kenner did everything to leverage the licensing deal with Lucasfilm, putting out relatively strange toys like a projector and an AM radio disguised to look like Luke Skywalker’s headset from that one scene in the Millennium Falcon. Today, some of these toys go for massive prices in collector’s market, especially if they include discontinued features like double-telescopic lightsabers and vinyl clothes that deteriorate over time. If not, even a sealed toy in decent condition could get you a few hundred dollars.

However, it seems Kenner missed out on making one of Star Wars‘ most important aspects into a toy, and one fan took the opportunity to do it themselves. Someone gave The Force itself the vintage Kenner action figure packaging treatment. It’s exactly what you’re thinking, a replica of a vintage Kenner action figure packaging with an empty blister bubble, and “The Force” written on it. The character picture is a bit more descriptive, though, showing blue lights in outer space. That’s what The Force looks like, I suppose. Considering Kenner never made prequel trilogy toys, we know the packaging doesn’t contain Midichlorians. The creator clearly worked hard on this, as they incorporated the reverse of Kenner’s vintage Star Wars cardbacks and even sealed it in a plastic case for display. Either that, or to ensure The Force doesn’t awaken and dissipate.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like they’ve managed to get this vintage Kenner Star Wars The Force graded. Looking at the packaging, it would have probably got a pretty high grade, which would have boosted its overall value. The owner would have made a killing if they put it up for auction, as I highly doubt there’s another one like it. Discontinued variants and special packaging stickers are one thing, but owning the essence of what started the kerfuffle in the galaxy far, far away is probably something no Star Wars fan thought would ever be possible. If a high grade Darth Vader figure is a Grail, The Force might just be the second coming itself.
Of course, given the nature of this fan project, the comments on the Reddit post are almost as funny as the item itself. Remember the Midichlorians I mentioned earlier? Someone suggested that they should create an action figure packaging of them and just include a bunch of Sea-Monkeys. Another fan asked about The Force’s articulation points, which Kenner’s early figures didn’t have too many of. However, another fan gave the perfect response: “The articulation is everywhere. It surrounds, connects, and binds all living things together.” However, some doubted its authenticity, saying it might be a bootleg version filled with Nitrogen instead. Whatever the case may be, this hilarious little project gave us quite a laugh. If the owner does ever put it up for auction, and if you happen to be bidding on it, may The Force be with you.
