New Netflix Shows and Movies in August 2026

The amount of treasure hunts on TV is about to take a swan dive: Outer Banks is signing off with its fifth and final season. There are always more Netflix teen dramas waiting in the wings — just look at My Life With the Walter Boys, which returns for Season 3 this August and has already been renewed for Season 4 — but not all of them have this much gold at stake. If that scale isn’t epic enough for you, you can also check out the second and final season of Netflix’s adaptation of One Hundred Years of Solitude. 

On the reality TV front, Love Is Blind: UK is back for Season 3, and Let’s Marry Harry (not to be confused with Fox’s 2014 series I Wanna Marry “Harry”) premieres, following Harry Jowsey from Too Hot to Handle and Perfect Match as his friends try to help him find love. But the real stars are in the movies. Robert De Niro, Adam Scott, Michelle Monaghan lead crime thriller The Whisper Man, while the musical dramedy Don’t Say Good Luck, starring Sunny Sandler, features a supporting cast that includes Melanie Lynskey, Bebe Neuwirth, and Steve Buscemi.

The best new Netflix movies and shows in August

One Hundred Years of Solitude Part 2 (Aug. 5)

Netflix’s well-received adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s supposedly unadaptable novel is back for a second and final season, wrapping up the sweeping, nonlinear, multigenerational story of the Buendía family. “There was always this certainty that we were going to make it,” writer Camila Brugés told Netflix’s Tudum. “And I find that completely absurd.” The first seven episodes premiere on Aug. 5, with the series finale to follow on Aug. 26. Don’t Say Good Luck (Aug. 14)

Say “break a leg” to this musical coming-of-age dramedy about theater kid Sophie (Sunny Sandler), who’s getting ready to star in her high school musical when drama at home gets in the way. At least she’s got a great ensemble supporting her: Melanie Lynskey, Max Greenfield, Stephanie Beatriz, Bebe Neuwirth, and Steve Buscemi also star. 

Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing (Aug. 19)

Following up on their 2022 documentary Downfall: The Case Against Boeing, director Rory Kennedy and producer Mark Bailey dig into the death of Boeing whistleblower John Barnett and the testimony of other whistleblowers.

Outer Banks Season 5 (Aug. 20)

It’s been real, Outer Banks. The sun is setting on the treasure-hunting drama after one last season, which finds the Pogues out for revenge after JJ’s (Rudy Pankow) sudden death in Morocco. Now, Groff (J. Anthony Crane) is on the run with the priceless Blue Crown, leaving a grieving Kiara (Madison Bailey), John B (Chase Stokes), Sarah (Madelyn Cline), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and Cleo (Carlacia Grant) to hunt him down before they can make it home. The Whisper Man (Aug. 28)

There are movies that let the cast list do the talking, and The Whisper Man is one of them. Robert De Niro, Adam Scott, Michelle Monaghan, Michael Keaton, John Carroll Lynch, Owen Teague, and Hamish Linklater star in this crime thriller, based on the novel of the same name by Alex North, about a widowed writer who turns to his father, a retired detective, for help investigating his son’s abduction. James Ashcroft directs, with Marvel’s Russo brothers producing. [Trailer]
