After showcasing his singing abilities in 2021’stick, tick…BOOM!, the Oscar nominee revealed that he is indeed keeping music close to his heart through an unexpected musical endeavor.
“I do have a band, we doBugsy Malonecovers,” Garfield exclusivelytold E! News’Will Marfuggi, referencing the 1976 musical. “Look out forThe Shangles. Look out for a group of middle-aged guys doingBugsy Malonecovers.”
While the 42-year-old is certainlygiving a little love to the band,he noted theyarestill waiting to see “what happens outthere” for them in the future.
“We have some plans. We have some big plans,” he mused. “But I can’t really say it until it’s official—I don’t want to jinx it.”
But as theAmazing Spider-Manactor said, he andTheShangles aren’t in it for “any kind of commercial kind of success,” explaining, “It’s more of a passion project.”

Andchannelingpassion and magicintohis career is what Garfield is always searching for, which is why he’s grateful healso foundit in his new filmThe Magic Faraway Tree, in theaters Aug. 21.
“A big part of the draw of doing the film is that it was an opportunity to play and be silly and not take things seriously,” he shared. “It’s like fantasy fulfillment.”
“We’ve all been so captured and taken over by these amazing technological developments in our culture and our society right now,” Garfield explained, “but they do suck a lot of our time away from us.”
That realization is part of why the script forThe Magic Faraway Tree—which also costarsClaireFoyandNicola Coughlan—spoke to his soul and made him realize that he needed “this theme in my life.”
“I need this essence in my life. I need more excuse to go into woods and to look at the tree bark and the ants crawling up the tree,” he said, “and to get lost in the magnificence of nature and the magic of it.”
