The trilogy that began with ‘WandaVision’ concludes; Paul Bettany and James Spader star; a bounty puts a rebooted Vision on the run with Thomas Shepard, a boy who may be his son, reincarnate; streams October 14 on Disney+.
Marvel Television has released the first trailer, poster and images for VisionQuest, which premieres October 14 exclusively on Disney+. Paul Bettany and James Spader joined Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige on stage last week at D23 to share their work on the upcoming series. Should we say, to share their “vision.” Yes, had to go there.
The series closes the trilogy that began with 2021’s WandaVision and continued with 2024’s Agatha All Along. Vision has been rebooted, has escaped the people who wanted to weaponize him, and has gone into hiding. There you have it!
Looking for new meaning, as such omnipotent digital beings often do, he consults the artificial intelligence personas built into his own programming, among them F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S. and Ultron. A bounty on his head ends that quiet life and puts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a boy who may be his son, reincarnate. As Vision evades capture, he has to confront what he is, resist Ultron’s influence and work out who the boy is. Not necessarily in that order.
Yes, Spader returns as Ultron. Battany as Vision. Spader and Bettany… is there any better reason to check out this show? The cast includes Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, T’Nia Miller, Lauren Morais, Orla Brady, Diane Morgan, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, with Emily Hampshire and James D’Arcy.
Terry Matalas created the series for television, based on the Marvel Comics. He writes with Cindy Appel, Christopher Monfette, Nicole Falsetti and Matthew Okumura, and directs with Christopher J. Byrne, Gandja Monteiro and Vincenzo Natali. Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Mary Livanos, Matalas, Jac Schaeffer and Byrne executive produce; Roopesh Parekh produces. VFX studios on the show include Clear Angle Studios, El Ranchito, Folks VFX, Gentle Giant Studios, and SSVFX.
Matalas co-created 12 Monkeys for Syfy and ran the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard. Among the directors, Vincenzo Natali made Cube and Splice, and has since worked in television on Hannibal, Westworld and The Peripheral. Jac Schaeffer, head writer on WandaVision and creator of Agatha All Along, is among the executive producers.
Dan Sarto is Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Animation World Network.
