Synopsis: With a final push to save the New World, Frankenstein and Lilja must face a horde of bloodthirsty monsters—as well as an even more sinister, lurking danger—to make it to Liz Sherman.
Story
With Lilja having been injured in the last issue, Frankenstein was forced to use some of his Vril to heal her. As the two now rush up the mountainside to find Liz Sherman, the goddess who has been telepathically communicating with Lilja, they come under attack from a horde of vicious vampire birds.
In order to keep them away from Lilja, Frank takes on the birds by himself, but at great cost. Seeing that he is struggling, Lilja follows him down the mountainside to lend Frank some much-needed aid. Once the birds have gone, both Frank and Lilja take a nasty fall, leaving Frank badly hurt.
At this point, Lilja receives another message from Liz Sherman, who reveals that the dark forces are working to free her from the crystal that protects the new world from her burning power. Liz is fearful of what may happen if they succeed, adding even greater urgency to Frank and Lilja’s mission to find her.
The pair know that they are not far away from Liz Sherman, but Frank is unsure whether he has enough Vril left to properly heal himself. Nevertheless, they press on, which is where this part of the story concludes.
Artwork
Peter Bergtingproduces some solid artwork for this final issue and also provides the cover. The panels in which we see Liz Sherman encased in the crystal, mentally projecting herself to Lilja to warn her about the urgency of their mission, are brilliant. I particularly loved the bright oranges and yellows used to convey the enormous elemental fires that make up Liz Sherman.
Overall
This has been an enjoyable series, but I am a little disappointed that I will have to pick up another series to see how the story concludes, as this final issue leaves things on a cliffhanger.
