With the premiere a little over a month away, Netflix released the official trailer for theA Different World sequel series, set to premiere on September 24, exactly 39 years after the original series. The sequel series follows a new cast of characters in a new generation of college life. The trailer showcased the new Hillman College, filmed on the Clark Atlanta University campus.

The trailer brought several widely reported storylines from season one to life. We saw Deborah Wayne interact with her parents, Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert-Wayne. We then quickly see Whitley and Deborah interact with Rashida Duvall, a first-generation college student from Compton, whom Whitley advises Deborah to watch. But Rashida evolves into an important character central to the focus on activism, as well as her own budding romance with Kojo, a Ghana-Nigerian student who will showcase his entrepreneurship in the full series.
Also featured is Shaquille Johnson, the son of Ron Johnson, who was a central character on the originalA Different Worldseries. Johnson’s arrival on campus with his father draws attention and showcases his high profile as a top athlete. The trailer also previews the continuing romance between Shaquille and Deborah, who are childhood friends who explore a relationship while at Hillman.

Her actions often challenge what she was raised on. Hazel has several moments in the trailer, including a party scene where she dances and eventually feels shame.
